Question about Bernina Artista 170

1 Answer

I had not used my embroidery module for a couple of years now. When I installed it to do some embroidery my 170 screen showed both the module and the personal card choice but it would not react when I pushed either one. I just had the machine serviced by an authorized dealer, so I know it is good, but should I have taken the embroidery module with it to be serviced?

Ya they probably did not test the emb part of the machine if you did not bring in the emb unit.
Sounds like a bad atapter print to me, it was a big problem with that machine. Could also be the roung softwere verson aswell. Will need to take it back in with emb unit

Is bernina artista 180 embroidery module compatible with bernina artista 170

Yes, The BERNINA Artista 180 and the BERNINA Artista 170 do in fact use the same Embroidery Module.

With embroidery card inserted into module, no motifs appear on the display screen.

Here are two other possibilities other than electrical problems with your Bernina. There are embroidery design cards that were made for the 200 & 730 that simply do not work in a 180. There is nothing marked on the card or the packaging that will tell you what model machine the card will work in. I sold a bunch of my design cards on eBay last winter and I tested all of them in both a 730 and a 180 before making the ad discription. I found that most of the design cards worked in the 180 & 730, but there were a few that only worked in the 730. So if your design card is one of those that won't work in a 180, that could be your problem.
You did not say if you have other design cards that do work or there is only one you tried. Possibly the card itself is bad.
A static shock to the card could possibly damage it.
So if you take your machine to a dealer to have it looked at, take your design card along.
The 180's memory for storing designs is located in the embroidery module, not the machine itself. If that memory is filled up with other designs this can cause a problem.
So your problem is most likely with the design card or with the embroidery module. Should you need to get another embroidery module, that module needs to be the same version number as your machine or it will not work. I have a. video posted on YouTube that shows you how to check the version number of your machine and module. That information is in my "Bernina check hours 165, 170, 180, 185" video. Put that in the YouTube search box and you will find my video. Plus I have other helpful Bernina videos posted.

Why wont my Bernina 170 QE embroidery unit work

Electronics fail eventually. It is a bummer because I bet you love your old Bernie. Electronics are nothing for the novice to mess with unless they have loads of component level experience. I would take this to your sewing tech and have them check it out. (maybe get a new one?)

My embroidery module is not recognised

Is the firmware at the same version in the sewing machine and in the embroidery module ... if not, it wont work. Have the two worked together before, or have you just obtained the EMB separately from the machine ?

I'm selling Bernina Artista instruction DVDs on Ebay, one is only for the embroidery part, which teaches very well how to do it. It is for the models 165, 170 and 180.

When stitching the design the upper thread keeps

The tension is not properly set for embroidery, try to rethread totally new. Sometimes it is also caused by broken thread inside the machine, you can open it with the supplied L-shaped tool on the left side of the machine where the lamp is located and than take it out with a tweezer.

Bernina 180E Embroidery module not recognized

Anytime there is a communication issue between machine and module attach the module to a different machine and check it. Possibly at a dealership. This will tell you whether its the machine or module. If its the machine then the soldering points on the embroidery module plug to the A-print (on the side of the machine) circuitboard need to be checked. Then most likely replace the A-print circuitboard.
There are other tests that need to be done in the service program that will help pinpoint and troubleshoot issues with the embroidery unit. Such sensors or stepping motors, etc. Should be left to a tech.
Hope I helped.

Brother Embroidery machine thread keeps breaking

It doesn't matter so much the thickness of the stabilizer but more a matter of it being taut like a drum and the proper stabilizer for the fabric you're using. Couple of reasons the thread breaks...the thread gets caught on the edge of the spool in the crack where the thread originally starts, you're not using the right size spool cap or the upper thread is wrapping around the spool pin. When I use my 170 for embroidering I always use the vertical spool pin to eliminate this problem. Try it and let me know how you make out.
