Question about Garden

Open Question

I got a Makita DCS 400 chainsaw, and had it for more than 10 years, and it runs pretty good, but now it seems that I got a problem with the lubrication of the chain !! when I start up and give fuld power I don't see any oil comming out like I used to do... when I fill up with gaz and chainoil, and use a full tank of gaz there use to be a little chainol left over in the tank, but now it's half full.... soo any one here that knowes what to do ???

The pull cord shouldn't have anything to do with your problem.

Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:

Youwill need to disassemble the carburetor and spraywith carb.cleaner. Make sure the small screen is free of debris.(Should be able to see daylight through it.) Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals canbecome blocked. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

I couldn't find a parts list or any source for parts. You can download the operator's manual. This appears to be a Chinese chainsaw. Parts may be difficult or impossible to find.

A blunted, hooked piece of wire can be used to pull the hose in the oil tank out. I recommend the filter be replaced. Work your way through the linkage cleaning and replacing any defective parts as you go. The oil pump is often behind the clutch. The saw can be operated without the bar and chain to verify oiler operation. Please make extensive notes & some digital pictures will help during reassembly. GL

Once removed a GOOD local chainsaw sales/repair shop may recommend interchangeable parts.

Brand new, seems like everything assembled fine. Won't start. Right gas mix, right chain saw oil. No start. Makita dcs 400.

remove the chain and bar and try to start without it, if it start then chain was too tight. also you may need to do a small adjustment to carburator. check spark plug gap. check for spark. even brand new one need an adjustment at first use. if you can not make it start it has warranty. take it where you bought it.

My DCS401-16 starts w/difficulty, but won't run long, is leaking.

I suspect you have cracked fuel lines. An open line causes the saw to run lean. To large a leak and she won't run at all. Check your area for a Dolmar (owned by Makita) dealer. They sell red versions of your blue saw and for a nominal fee will be happy to help.

You own a pretty good saw.

What I would do first is remove the bar and run the saw a short time to see if oil coming out of pump (make sure there is oil in the tank) if so recheck the bar for blockage in the small round hole in the side and run something like a paper clip or small piece of metal to clean out the groove. If you need a breakdown for this tool you might want to try Makitatools.com. I haven't checked to see if it is there but usually it would be. Good luck

We need Make, model and serial numbers from the manufacturer's tag to help you any more. Your manuals can be found here:
