Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I am trying to update drivers online for devices that are on my computer, and am connected to the internet, but right at a crucial moment when the programme that I am using to help update out of date drivers seems to have found the drivers I need, I get a message on my screen telling me that I do not have an active internet connection. I don't understand this as I am connected to the internet and am on the internet now. How can this internet problem be fixed, although I don't see how there is one?

Why are you doing updates when Microsoft does them until your os is obsolete. I hope you didn't waste your money on a program that is supposed to do it for you. If it aint broke don't fix it.

Try to connect a ethernet cable into the computer, to give it a solid internet connection.
if you can't, use a computer that has internet. you may need to download the drivers with the "other" computer and install it on This computer.

If you have the My Computer icon, right click on it, and click Manage. Click Devices, and you should see a bunch of devices, one being your network adapter. If you connected the internet to your computer, you can double click on your network adapter in this list, and search for the drivers. It should say Update Drivers, or Look online for drivers.
If you didn't connect it online, than copy the driver names, and search for them on the Other computer. Download them, copy them with a usb or cd drive, and install them.
restart your computer.

hope this helps!

No display.

Goto my computer and right click, choose properties and then go into device manager, find display adapters and click the "+" sign to the left, it should bring your graphics driver that you are using at the moment, right click on it and choose update driver, use the internet option to automatically find the driver online, it takes a few minutes so be patient and it should find the correct driver for your graphics.

Can connect to local but not Internet?
This is most likely due to a driver issue other than a settings issue. First off, if you are running your computer in selective startup, change it back to normal startup and reboot. If this clears the problem then great, you can go back to selective startup but be careful as to what services you shut down.
The easiest way to check if this is a driver issue is to update the driver for the device. This can be done at the Device Manager found in the control panel, (In XP, the device manager is in the “system” icon and under the hardware tab). Scroll down to the network adapters and click on the + sign. Double click on the adapter and choose to update driver, let it search the internet (windows update) if it wants to, if it finds an updated driver, allow it to install. If it does not find an updated driver, then maybe the driver you have is a recent one but it may be corrupt. If that is the case, then it would be better to right click on the adapter and choose uninstall, this will force windows to reinstall the device the next time it reboots, and again it will ask to search online for a fresh driver, choose yes and let it run. Once the device installs, try to connect to the internet.
