It is connected to the receiver for the surround sound. The sound works when I play a DVD, but not when the VHS is playing. The unit is relatively new, too. I have the manual and from what I can tell all is connected correctly. I am thinking that it is something really simple that I am missing.???

Hi there,

I suspect you've used the audio out sockets on the back of the player that are exclusively for the DVD player. I've ringed these in red in the diagram below. For audio from both DVD and VCR, you need to use the audio out sockets for DVD/VCR which I've ringed in green.connect the magnavox zv457mg9 and the dvr side - belectric_162.jpg I suspect this is the cause of the problem, but if you are using two connections from the player to the TV (one for DVD and one for VCR), the VCR will be on a different input to the DVD.

Hope this helps. If this does not solve the problem or you need further assistance, please let me know the model number of your TV and how the DVD/VCR player is connected to the TV. If you don't know the model number of the TV this can be found on a label on the back of the TV. Please reply to me by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question.

You would need to connect 'AUDIO OUT' from this unit to your TV when using component video cable (red-blue-green) using DVD/VCR connection, then to your TV audio input and respective component video inputs. Otherwise, with standard video RCA cable (yellow-white-red), you would need to connect the VIDEO-L-R outputs of the unit (next to the antenna IN and RF out sockets) to the respective AV inputs of your TV (assuming the VCR does not use component video plus audio out).

Below is a link to observe a free colourful quick guide on the connection of your unit to your TV set; this may be a bit clearer than the instruction manual.

NOTE: this is a quick guide only, not the owner's manual - but it might assist you as it shows clear diagrams of the connection via component video/audio and standard video/audio outputs. (it is for this model only)

I am not totally sure if this will help, but it's worth a try.

You may or may not already have the quick guide, but the link I posted is a 'just in case'. I recommend that you re-check all the cable connections on the rear of your unit just to be sure.

Try connecting the common VHS/DVD audio output to your surround sound receiver. This should give you sound from either DVD or VCR. If it does not, then the unit has a defect which, if under warranty, you should send back for exchange.

How to connect Magnavox TV Model CH 3930 AL O2 to VHS player?

Actually, what you want to do is connect the VHS player to your TV. Your VHS player has three output leads: R. audio (red), L. audio (white), and video (yellow). These connect to corresponding inputs on the rear of your TV. Select VCR as the input source to your TV.

I cannot record digital when I try to set up my Magnavox ZV457MG9 (DVD). The unit will only record in the external L1. I have a Comcast box.

This is normal for the ZV457MG9 units. The Magnavox ZV457MG9 does not have an analog (NTSC) tuner; additionally there is no digital (ATSC or QAM) tuner either. It will only record on line in (L1) which is a composite input (limited to SD). The HDMI port on the recorder is an HDMI out to TV, not an input. The component video jacks are also only outputs.

The manual for the Magnavox ZV457MG9/F7 is available here: . The unit was manufactured for Magnavox by Funai; thus another link to the manual is .

I wish that I had better news for you.

(If your DVD/VCR recorder had a tuner, it would record off a coaxial (antenna) cable input. Many DVRs can record off the HD connection (HDMI or component); that may be a better option for replacing this Magnavox unit.)

Hi - No, it isn't fixed yet. However, for some reason, if you will notice, at the top of this page in blue lettering, there is a reference to a "Toshiba, DVR........ . I did not notice that until after I had posted the request for help. The problem is with a new "Magnavox ZV457MG9" recorder/player. I would dearly love to find out how to fix the problem - I hate to give up - in fact I don't think I can give up! Hopefully, someone in your group will help shed some light on this! Thanks for checking, Ginny

Connection/configuration issue: I have a Denon

Just confirming my understanding of your connections :

1). The DVD1800BD output HDMI is connected to AVR3808's DVD-in HDMI.
2). The DVD/VHS recorder output HDMI is connected to AVR3808's DVR-in HDMI.
3). The DVD/VHS recorder input (S-video and L/R Audio) is connected to AVR3808's DVR-out(SVideo and L/R Audio).

What other inputs have been connect to your AVR3808?
Does the recorder have Component Video inputs?

Please also connect DVD1800BD's output(Component video, S-Video and L/R Audio) to AVR3808s' DVD-in similar inputs and try recording onto your recorder.

Actually, its possible that you may be having a HDMI HDCP communication issue(High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) with the source product (DVD1800BD). First check with the source equipment manufacturer for any updates to their products.

If HDMI video is not passing through your AVR3808, you can connect it thru the alternate connection method I have mentioned above.

If the connections/recording still does not happen with the added anolog cables, then let me know , we can trouble shoot it further.
I hope the above helps.

Please do rate this solution and thanks for using FixYa!
