Question about Rinnai Toyostove Direct Vent Heater: Laser 56 Toyostove Direct Vent Heater

1 Answer

I bought two used Toyostove laser 56 heaters. All fuel connections are fine and secure and do not leak. I pushed the primer pump as instructed for approx I second, I plugged it in set clock then went to manual start. The temp settting and actual temp show, and the light flashes on and off. After a few mins kerosene leaks from the bottom of both unit. Could it be a faulty/dried gasket or something more serious? Both units had not been used for over a year.

Hi. This is most likely caused by a dried out gasket.
Fuel may be made from kerosene, but if not kept lubricated, the gaskets will dry out over time.
There are several places you can go to get your gaskets, Menatds, HomeDepot, WalMart even carries some.
Also, check your fuel line connections so as to make sure that they aren't loose.
It only takes a little looseness to allow for seepage of fuel.

Another place that carries gaskets is Tractor Supply. They carry gaskets for items like this, and sometimes has options not carried at the other stores.

I hope you get the stove working again, and good luck !

I have a lazer 56, EE2 is showing up. I cleaned the sensor and the heating rod. It doesn't seem to be pumping any fuel. I also cleaned the filter in the fuel sump? Could it possibly be the fuel pump,...

This is usually a fuel flow problem. If you have a filter at your oil barrel you should check it. Does the fuel pump make a loud thumping noise? If it does, the fuel isn't making it to the fuel pump. It can also be caused by a bad igniter. Use an ohmmeter to check the igniter. Connect it to the ends of the igniter leads. It should read between 15 - 20 ohms. You can also feel the igniter cover while it is going through the start up cycle. It should get warm and may be hot. You can check the fuel pump by removing the fuel line from the burner and directing it into a bowl to see if it is pumping. The pump will not start pumping until the burner lights come on. Also try pressing the fuel reset button on the right side of the heater. It is on the fuel sump. Let me know what you find and I can give you more advice if needed. Your vote and any testimonial are also appreciated.

I let my tank empty before refueling and now my toyo laser 56 has a ee 2 error on it how can i fix this?

You may have an air bubble in the fuel line or the filter (if you have one at the fuel barrel) may be clogged. The filter has a vent screw on top and you may need to vent the filter to get the fuel flowing. There is also a strainer in the fuel sump that may have gotten clogged.
Another thing is to push the red float reset button on the right side of the heater. If the float is latched up you will feel a little resistance and hear the float drop. Only press the reset button momentarily. It is not a primer button.
You can get a bowl and some rags to set under the line where it connects to the back of the heater and then loosen the line to make sure you are getting kerosene to the heater.
The fuel pump makes a loud ticking or thumping sound if it isn't getting any fuel.
Let me know if this helps or you need more advice.

I keep finding my Lazer 56 off, with the code EE6. What does that mean?

This could be several things. It could be a problem with fuel flow, the high temperature limit is activated, or a problem with the flame rod. Start by checking your filter at the barrel and the strainer in the fuel sump. If you hear a ticking or thumping noise before it cuts off, you are not getting fuel to the fuel pump. Next you can clean your flame rod with some steelwool or fine sandpaper. Lastly, make sure the circulating fan is running and nothing is blocking the air to fan. You can also clean the fan blades if they are dirty.

I have an error EE 2 on my lazer 56 toyostove Does anyone know what that means?

EE 2 means its not getting fuel, your flame sensor could be dirty, or there could be a problem with the circuit board. The heater goes thru a 3 min warm-up/purge before the pump comes on. If the pump is making a loud ticking sound then it isn't getting fuel. You should then check your filter and the strainer in the fuel sump. If the pump isn't making a noise you could check the flame rod and clean it with some steel wool. You should check to make sure the igniter is working also. After you turn your heater on the cover on the igniter will start to get warm and will get very hot before the purge is done so use caution. Hope this helps.

Heater keeps shuting down and displaying EE 6

Check for air leaks in the fuel line. Push the red reset button only once. It's usually a fuel problem. Contamination, air, mixed fuel.

Toyo Laser 56 EE2 message--no flame? valves open and clean filter

You might of got type 2 fuel oil. If it is a smaller tank sometimes the fueler doesn't clear the line before filling and you'll slug down some type2 which will snuff the flame.
Check to see if the filler kinked a line outside while filling.

Laser 56 - leaking fuel at heater feed through

It sounds like the igniter is no good. Everytime you try to start the stove the fuel pump puts fuel into the burner. If the igniter works it burns it out, if not it just builds up. If it gets high enough it comes out the igniter. Now, there could be another reason for the fuel. Have you ever pushed the little red putton on the sump? I will say, do not push that button until you know what it does. It can flood your heater big time. Rule of thumb for the red button, one time for one second, only.

You need to sop up the fuel from inside the burner. Use a rolled up paper towel. Once you have proved the igniter you can try again. If you can't prove the igniter you need a new one.
