Well the beeps were very rapid 4-5 beeps per a Second continues for 20-25 sec's at which point i turn it off.
As i had swapped out the hard-drive i replaced the old one and had no problems so I'm guess there's a fault with the new hard-drive.

But thx for the help :D

Please count the number of rapid beeps. 3 short beeps is a memory error. 8 short beeps is a display memory error. 9 short beeps is a ROM Bios checksum error and 10 beeps is a CMOS shut down read/write error.

The solution will depend on the error. For a memory error, remove all of the memory sticks then reinsert each one separately and reboot the computer. If the board continues to beep 3 times, that stick is bad or the memory slot has failed.

The complete beep code list is provided here: http://www.asrock.com/support/qa/TSDQA-01.pdf .

I hope this helps.

    Cheers for the help Cindy.
But the Error was not on the list, the rapid Beeping was 4-5 beeps per a sec continuing on till system is turned off .
After i swapped back the Hard-drives i had no problem, so I'm guessing there's a fault with the new Hard-drive.

I'm sorry to hear that your new drive is bad. I hope you can RMA the drive without incurring a lot of extra fees.

Power Light Flashes 5 Times Won't Boot Up

If it uses AMI bios then 5 short beeps means motherboard failure.
  1. Remove RAM memory, Graphics card, other Plug-in cards, and Drive cables from your mainboard.
Only CPU + Fan + Power cable are installed on the mainboard.
  2. Power on the PC, and listen to the beeps:
    • no beeps => Power supply, CPU, mainboard or BIOS is most likely defective.
    • some beeps => remember the beeps and next step.
  3. Power off the PC, and insert the RAM memory.
  4. Power on the PC, and listen to the beeps:
    • no beeps => RAM incorrectly installed.
    • same beeps as before => RAM is most likely defective.
    • beeps have changed => next step.
  5. Power off the PC, and insert the Graphics card.
  6. Power on the PC:
    • some beeps => Graphics card is most likely defective.
    • blank screen =>Graphics card is most likely defective.

Hard drive beeping noises

Never heard of a Harddrive beeping before, but I'll take your word for it.

The beeps you hear are BIOS Beep Codes.
The computer's way if telling you something is wrong, and an area to look into for it.

The beeps are a pattern, or Code.
For example; 1 Long beep, a pause; then 3 Short beeps.

One Short beep, pause, Short Beep, pause; and repeating over, and over.

So....................in your own words Eric, tell the jury where you were on the night in question?
Do you have any alibi's?

WHAT? !O_O!

I mean................what is the beep code you hear?

Plus what is the Product Number of the HP desktop computer?
This can be found on the back of the computer, in the white Service Tag.
P/N = Product Number

Post back in a Comment.

3 medium beeps on pc; repeating

Hi John. If you already swaped the Memory, it's the video card. I'm giving you what the beep means according to the different types of BIOS, because basically Ascent is a clone PC. I hope it helps.
(you will have to open the computer to see the BIOS type.)

BIOS AWARD

1 long beep and 2 shorts -- Video error
2 short beeps -- non-fatal error.
1 beep corto -- OK.

BIOS AMI

1 short beep -- Memory error.
2 short beeps -- ECC error.
3 short beeps -- Memory error.
4 short beeps -- change atery
5 beeps cortos -- bad processor.
6 beeps cortos -- bad keyboard.
7 beeps cortos -- video memory bad.
8 beeps cortos -- video bad.
BIOS PHOENIX

1-1-2 beeps -- Problem with cpu/motherboard.
1-1-3 beeps -- Cmos issue.
3-4-1 beeps -- Video issue.

BIOS IBM

1 short beep -- Post normal, ok!.
2 short beeps -- POST error, will show on screen.
NO beep -- CPU issue or Expansion card issue
1 long and 1 short -- motherboard error.
1 long and 2 shorts -- Video issue.
1 long and 3 shorts --EGA video issue.
3 longs -- Keyboard error.

Computer will not start

It all depends how many beeps there were.
From http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12253_div/12253_div.HTML
Diagnostic LED Explanation Table Number of 1-second red LED blinks followed by 2-second pause, then repeats:
2-processor thermal protection activated
3-processor not installed
4-power supply failure
5-memory error
6-video error
7-PCA failure (ROM detected failure prior to video)
8-invalid ROM, bootblock recover mode

I have only really come across 4 beeps = order new Power Supply or 5 Beeps = reseat the memory and hope it works

Oli

My 915-m5 mb starts but have no video. No sound except for fans and hd are noted, but no signal video is seen in monitor. Please answer to joitod@coqui.net at your earliest convenience. Thanks

do you get a single beep about 2 to 5 seconds after the system is powered up..? If no, then your mainboard IS NOT working. The fans and hard drives will still spin up even if the mainboard is not booting. You need to listen for that single beep as this tells you that the boards POST (power on self test) has completed and all is well. If it does not beep, then you have a mainboard issue. Reply to this and tell us if you hear this beep or not..

My presario 1600 just beeps when I turn it on...

there are 4 kinds of beeps that the pc produce when you turn it on, base on your beep it is indicating that the memmory is damage,

a single beep means the pc is ok
and your beep is memmory damage
a long beep pause and then beep long again means video card damage
if the beep sound like a firetruck the processor or memmory is over heating

If your computer is beeping at you, 9 times out of 10 its going to be an issue with the memory or video. (more often the memory) Try re-seating both. If your still hearing the beep fest, below is a list of the most common beeps and what they refer to. This will help you to find out what needs replacing.

Long beep followed by 3 sequential short beeps. This issue is linked to your Graphic card configurations
Short beep followed by three sequential long beeps You are facing a system memory problem
Beep- PAUSE- Beep- PAUSE- Two sequential beeps This error is linked to your CPU
Three beeps-PAUSE-Three beeps-PAUSE-Four beeps You have an issue with the video memory
Three beeps-PAUSE-Four beeps-PAUSE-Beep This is linked to an error with your Graphic Card
Four beeps-PAUSE-Three beeps-PAUSE-Beep You have a system memory problem
Five short beeps You are facing a problem with your CPU
Long constant beeps It’s a system memory problem
Short constant and high-pitched beeps The temperature of your CPU is too high

The repeating single beep with a small pause (actually 3 Beeps a Pause) clearly indicates problems with RAM .Replace it ,your problem will be solved . As for connecting the 12 volt 4 pin connector all mobos are designed to sense the presence of this 12 volts and ONLY THEN TURN ON.
