Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have been using my desktop for sometime now with no problems. I powered it up one day and got no signal o the monitor, no beeps nor anything like that. The processor fan spins and keys board lights up initial then goes out. I am running a MSI MS-7309 K9N65Gm-V motherboard with a AMD sempron processor. To date I have tried resetting the BIOS by switching around the jumper, I have removed the CMOS battery, I have removed all PCI components and tried starting the pc but same problem. I even tried bootng the PC without any memory in, I did not even get the warning beep. I need your help urgently. Pleae help.

Since you have tried everything else, i persure the problem is with the processor. It might not be getting the require power. If you have installed any hardware recently, try removing it and starting thr pc.

The computer was connected to the monitor when i walked out and when i returned it was unplugged. when i tried to connect it again the monitor reads no signal and makes a series of beeps. first beep isnt...

The beep is actually called a beep code and it is telling you where the problem is. IF that is one short and one long beep than the problem is memory. You may have to just reseat you memory or replace one of the modules.

This is a link to a page that goes over all the beep codes used on HP's. You should have a look and a listen and you will soon know where your problem lies. If it is bad ram then it is annoying but also a good excuse to upgrade the amount of ram as it is fairly cheap these days. Extra ram will make a big difference to how fast your hp runs. It is the second best thing you can do to improve your speed, the first is a newer type video card with over 1gb of vram.

The cost of say 4gb of ram can be under $40 , sometimes quite a bit less. And it is something you can replace at home. If you buy the ram from a shop they can be usually convinced/bribed to put in in for you.

Lights 3 &4 stay on.

Computer beeping at you is usually a problem with the video card or memory. Try re-seating both and see if you still have the same problem. If you do, individually remove each component and power on to test if the beeps persist.

No signal on monitor

Check that the power is plugged into the back of the monitor and also to the power point, make sure power point is ON. If anything pull plugs out and re-connect both just to make sure.

Make sure monitor cable is also plugged into the back of the computer.
Turn computer on and make sure it beeps and looks like it has hard disk activity to show it is booting into windows. If it doesn't beep or show activity it could be your PC having an issue else it is possibly your monitor.

To double check try your monitor on another PC and try another monitor on your PC to see which has failed.
