Question about RCA 20F530T 20" TV

1 Answer

Have new sony dvd player (dvp-sr500h) and can't connect to my rca 20f530T tv (also with cable box in the mix). I am using rca cables. Not getting picture or sound.

I'm almost certain that I don't have the remote. The RCA cables have 3 jacks on them. I use my cable remote to operate my tv, but I have to get up and push the power button to actually turn off the tv itself. I'm wondering if there is an alternate way to connect using some kind of converter? My old dvd player/vcr was connected differently, there were coax cables running from cable box to dvd player and from dvd player to tv.

  • prunefeet2 Mar 27, 2011

Also, nothing happens when I press the "tv input" button on the dvd remote. Just now, I had a dvd in the player and when I pressed the stop button, "91" came up on the dvd display. Again the tv is old and the dvd player is new, just out of the box. Maybe the dvd player is faulty? I have a feeling though that it has to do with the connections.

The cable box is a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2200. The remote is a URSU-8700L-TWY from Time Warner Cable.

  • prunefeet2 Mar 27, 2011

    Ok, thanks. Enjoy your meal!

  • prunefeet2 Mar 27, 2011

Tried this with the cable box on and with it off. To clarify, the tv screen is blank unless I turn on the cable box, it's not snowy or anything. In any case, nothing happened when I pressed these buttons.

  • prunefeet2 Mar 27, 2011

Should I try ordering a replacement remote for the tv, assuming this is possible?

  • prunefeet2 Mar 27, 2011

WOW, I am getting video, but no audio, or to clarify, I'm getting odd buzzing instead of audio. Great picture though!

  • prunefeet2 Mar 27, 2011

Disregard remark about audio, the we had some plugs switched. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. My husband said to send you an apple pie.

Not only was the solution extremely helpful, but belectric spent a lot of time researching and figuring this out for me. Belectric was also super articulate and pleasant, and I could NOT be more pleased.

Hello prunefeet.

If you're certain you've connected the cables correctly, I think the part you may be missing is selecting the correct input on the TV. Switch the TV and DVD player on, then press the INPUT button on the RCA remote (supplied with the TV) slowly and repeatedly until you either get the setup/welcome screen from the Sony DVD player or you return to the TV channels again.

If you don't have the original RCA remote control or you cannot find the signal from the DVD player by pressing the INPUT button, please can you let me know the following:

1. How many jacks/plugs are there on each end of your RCA cables - 3 or 5?
2. Which remote control do you use to operate the TV?

Thanks,
BElectric

Thanks for getting back to me.

You don't need any sort of converter - the problem is that you are unable to select the correct input on the TV for the DVD player. If you can find the RCA remote, this will solve the problem. If you can't find it, you may be able to do it using the cable box remote, but the remote may need to be programmed to enable this feature.

If you can't find the RCA remote, please let me know the model number of your cable remote or cable box and I will see if there is a way to do it from the cable remote. The cable box model number should be on the front of the box or on a label on the back. The remote model number may be written on the upper face of the remote or possibly on the back or in the battery compartment.

It may also be possible to use the Sony DVD remote for switching inputs. I will check on this for you.

    Thanks,

    BElectric

Dinner was most enjoyable - thanks!

I don't think this will work, but it's simple and worth trying and this assumes the Time Warner remote is setup to operate the power and volume controls on your TV . . .

    1. Switch the TV and DVD player ON

    2. Press the TV key (below power) on the Time Warner remote once.

    3. Point the Time Warner remote at the TV and press the VIDEO SOURCE key once.

(VIDEO SOURCE is in the bottom right-hand corner)

    - If nothing happens when you press VIDEO SOURCE key, press the CBL button on the remote once and then get back to me.

    - If the TV screen goes blank when you press VIDEO SOURCE, keep pressing it slowly and repeatedly until the DVD player setup/welcome screen appears or you return to the cable TV channels.

I'm just looking into other methods for switching the TV to the DVD player input with the remote controls you have, but this is the easiest way if it works.

I'm just checking whether it can be done from within the on-screen menu on the TV (using the buttons on the front of the TV) or from the Sony remote. If neither of these are possible, you will need to get a replacement RCA remote.

These RCAs are a pain for switching inputs without the original remote, but it may be possible. If you do need to get a new RCA remote, I can probably find suppliers for you.

  • DILLIGAF
    DILLIGAF Mar 27, 2011

OK, it definitely can't be done from the TV itself. Inputs can only be switched from a remote. We can try this from the Sony remote. If it doesn't work you will need to get a replacement RCA remote or a universal remote. I'd suggest replacing the original RCA remote as there is no guarantee it can be done from a universal.

First you need to program the Sony remote to work with the TV:

    1. Switch on the TV

    2. Hold down the TV POWER key on the Sony remote

    (TV POWER)

    3. While still holding the TV POWER key, press 1 0 using the number keys on the Sony remote.

    4. Release the TV POWER key

    6. Point the remote at the TV and press the TV POWER key again.

    - If nothing happens you will need to replace your RCA remote.

    - If the TV switches off, switch the TV on again using the TV POWER key then . . .

    6. Switch on the DVD player

    7. Press the TV INPUT key on the Sony remote slowly and repeatedly until you either get the signal from the DVD player or you return to the TV channels.

If nothing happens when you press the TV INPUT key, you will need to replace the RCA remote.

Try this then report back. If you determine that you need to replace the RCA remote, please can you let me know your location to assist me with finding suppliers for a replacement remote.

    Good luck!

    Regards,

    BElectric

LOL - you're welcome. Thank you for the kind words. I often have apple pie on Sunday but not today, unfortunately. Feel free to send some over.

I'm glad you got back to me quickly about the audio as I was about to start drawing a connection diagram! Remember to use the TV INPUT key on the Sony remote to switch back to the cable TV channels. If you need any further assistance with the TV or DVD player, please post another message on this page.

    Cheers,

sounds like the cable hook up may be wrong.check that all cables are correctly matched by color to the plugs on both the tv and the dvd player.Make sure all components are turned off before doing this. Also try unplugging all cables that connect dvd to tv and then reconnect.Check cables for any frays or cuts, replace if necessary. How do i connect my sony dvp-sr210p cd/dvd player to t.v.

you can use an RCA connector .just hooked up the rca cable in the video and audio port ( output ) of the dvd player and then the other end of the rca cable to the component input of the tv unit. then set the tv unit to the right input like AV1, AV2 or AV3. depending on the input that you have been plugged in the tv component input port.

Hi,
  • If I understand your question correctly you want to watch your DVD on your TV thru your receiver,
  • you need to connect either composite connections "Audio/Video Output " red/white/yellow RCA jacks or "Optic cable output" of your receiver
  • ( pls note that component to composite conversion is not possible on receiver ..use one type connection thru all the way )
  • to "Audio/Video input " red/white/yellow RCA jacks or "Optic Cable input" of your TV
  • than just switch to DVD mode on corresponding your RCA or Optic connection...
There you go..Your DVD sound and video both are on the TV..
  • Hope this helps!

How to connect dvp 3356 t0 samsung 29 inch tv with crt tube.

Please check the connection. If you are connecting the 3 RCA cables to DVD component input/output, you need another pair of RCA cables to connect to audio out (FL&FR rear of DVD player) and Audio in (L&R) in your TV set. Else connect 3 RCA cable in 1-Video out & 2 Audio out of DVD player and 1-Video in & 2 Audio-in of TV.

I need help connecting sony dvp ns 300 to a jvc tv. I can't watch dvd at all, confused about the wiring where does it go?

The CD/DVD player has three output ports:
(i) Line out Video used to connect the yellow pin of composite cable.
(ii) S-video out use d to connect an S-video cable.
(iii) Component video out (red, blue, green) used to connect a component video cable.

So, in order to connect the CD/DVD player to the TV, the TV should have either of the corresponding input port on it.

However, the video quality transmitted by component video cable will be the best among the three.

So, you may connect the TV and the CD/DVD player using an appropriate cable.

All the above connections require an additional audio cable to transmit audio from the CD/DVD player to the TV.
In this case, you may use an RCA (red and white) audio cable to connect the "R and L" audio out port on the CD/DVD player to the corresponding "R and L" audio in port on the TV.

Performing all the above steps will help you get the DVD player work with the TV.

wish u good luck!!!!!!!!!!

I just purchased a Sherwood RD 6513 reciever, I'm trying to connect a hd cable box (motorola dch 3200), dvd player (sony dvp ns710h) and a rca hd tv (l32hd41). I connected hdmi cords from both components...

Hi! I will be more than glad to assist you. I f you are going to hook up your cable box - motorola to the sherwood receiver, connect an hdmi cable to the back of the motorola cable box, there is only 1 hdmi output there, then connect the other end to the sherwood receiver on the hdmi input, then connect another hdmi cable to the hdmi output and the other end goes to your rca hd tv.

for the sony dvp, you have only one hdmi out, connect an hdmi cable to the back of the sony dvp if u have another spare. connect it to the hdmi input of the sherwood receiver. there is only 1 hdmi output at the sherwood, so u need to use a component cable to be connected at the back of the sherwood receiver component output then the other end goes to the component input of the hd tv.

if you dont have anymore hdmi cable to hook up your sony dvp, u can use component cable, the connection will goes like this, connect a component cable on the output of the sony dvp and the other end goes to the sherwood component input then connect another component cable to the component output of the sherwood and the other end goes to the rca hd tv on the component input.

I hope this will solve your concern, if you have any question, u can get in touch..

For Manual, appending the link of official Sony Website- http://www.sony-asia.com/support/manual/product/dvp-ns57p/modelfirst
Follow instruction & download it.. its very simple.
For Connectivity with any standard CTV, get for AV (Composite) Cable with RED, WHITE & YELLOW ports at both ends. Connect one side ends of cable to DVD Player back side where LINE/ VIDEO OUT is written for video & RED & WHITE to R & L ports respectively. Similarly in TV other ends are required to connect with AV IN.
NOTE- Make sure corresponding ports are required to connect with same colored jacks.

I m sure this will definitely help out.. if no, plz let me know.
