Question about Whirlpool Inglis IP8200 Dryer

1 Answer

My dryer is making a humming noise. I turned it on and it shut itself off. So I turned it back on and the drum wouldn't spin but made a humming noise so I turned it off. My boyfriend looked at it and made sure all the vents are clear then turned it on. The drum spins and heat is coming out but it is still making that humming noise any thoughts?

My Kenmore 90 Series electric dryer makes a humming noise when I push the start button. It heats up, run for a short while, then stops. Before it stops there is a clicking noise like a circuit or safety...

There's possibilty that the bearing is going bad. It would cause the belt to slide alittle when the drums starts to turn. The strain on the motor because of the bad bearing can cause the motor overload and shut down until it cools, then it can be restarted.

My kenmore dryer makes a humming noise when u turn it on n the drum will not spin

If you are hearing a humming noise and no spinning . You have a burnt motor..Do not attempt to switch it on till you fix it to prevent further damage

Dryer wont start, makes a humming noise. I have to manualy turn the drum then the dryer will start

Check the belt to see if it is worn or loose. If it has a capacitor start motor, the capacitor or motor could be going bad also. If the motor is spinning but the belt is not turning then you have a loose belt.

Drum not turning, hear humming noise

the humming noise is from the motor, see if you can spin the drum by hand,if it moves you have a bad motor,if it's hard to turn you could have something stuck in the blower wheel or the belt is jammed somewhere, the blower wheel is behind the duct that the lint filter slides into

Dryer won't spin, but heats up - belt is okay

the motor may have seized up, or the drum bearings are shot.

The dryer just makes a humming noise when I turn it on, but won't turn all the way on

When you say it won't turn all the way on, does that mean the drum isn't rotating?

If yes, the belt from the motor that goes around the drum might have broken and you can hear the hum of the motor spinning but no longer rotating the drum.

The other thing I can think of is that the motor itself has failed, possibly seized, and you can hear the motor trying to spin but it cannot. With the dryer unplugged and empty of clothes, try to rotate the drum. If it rotates extreamly easily, then the belt has broken. If you cannot rotate it at all by hand, then chances are the motor is seized. It should rotate with moderate effort.
