Question about Honeywell Programmable Thermostat Heater

Open Question

I purchased and installed a Honeywell RTH2300B programmable thermostat yesterday. My house is heated with radiant heat from a Peerless boiler. After installing it, I manually set the temp above the current temp and the heat went on no problem. I then set the time periods, etc. and I believe it went on over night accordinng to the schedule. This morning, it did not go on as scheduled (display said heat on but furnace did not go on). I then manually set the temp 8 degrees above the current temp. The t stat clicked and Heat On was displayed but the furnace did not turn on. The furnace has plenty of water and pilot is on. One last thing - I purchased the RTH2300B b/c I started to develop the same exact problem with a RTH230B after it worked fine for 6 months. Any ideas as to why I am experiencing this problem would be much appreciated.

SOURCE: honeywell rth230b won't shut off heat

Sounds like a relay sticking. Possibly in the thermostat or possibly the furnace relay at the furnace. The next time it happens, unplug the thermostat from the wall. If the furnace still runs then it's the furnace relay.

Hope that helps...

SOURCE: Non-deletable schedule in VisionPRO TH8000

The thermostat has a function called "Adaptive Intelligent Recovery".

This feature allows the thermostat to learn how long the furnace and air conditioner take to reach programmed temperature settings, so the temperature is reached at the time you set. For example: Set the Wake time to 6 am, and the temperature to 70°. The heat will come on before 6 am, so the temperature is 70° by the time you wake at 6.

You can turn off this function. Download the installation guide at the next link:
http://customer.honeywell.com/honeywell/ProductInfo.aspx/TH8321U1006
and look for funcion number 0530 Adaptive Intelligent Recovery. In this manual you also find the way to do a reset with the function number 0710.

I hope this solves your problem.

Many thermostats have battery backup as well as the 24 volt ac. Have you replaced the batteries to see if it fixes all of your issues at once?

I have 2 wires coming from the wall, 1 white and 1 blue and want to wire a new honeywell 5-1-1 day programmable thermostat.

likely one wire to TH, the other to W if the thermostat operates on batteries. If the thermostat requires a 24 volt power source it is not compatible with your system.

Check how all three "on/off" sequences are programmed firsrt, then all other programmable options. Make sure sliders are in the sliders are in the correct possition. If it becomes more complicated than launching a space shuttle, reset it. Unless your house is a mansion keep it simple with just day and night modes. the money you save wont even cover the cost to fix the hole you punch in the wall trying to do fancy programming ;-D
