Either backlight (flourescent bulb inside) or power supply for backlight went bad - if you have voltage meter you can check if there is voltage where bulb goes and if there is replace bulb or if no power you will need to trouble shoot power supply which is common thing to go bad on these sets.

it is usually not worth paying to get this fixed if it is power supply and you might be better off just getting new set - sorry i know that is not what you were hoping to hear but....

good luck!!

Check that all cables are intact and plugged in correctly. (VGA, DVI, Antenna etc.) Did you place batteries correctly?
There might only be one button that turns the TV on/off (usually a red button in the top of the remote).

I experience some temporary image retension with my samsung hp-t5054. What is the best way to resolve this. What are the best settings for my TV?

This is a common problem with this Samsung TV.

Is this a new TV? If so, remember that it has a break-in period of about 100 hours or so. Not everyone believes in this, but in my experience it does have an effect.

Try reducing your contrast ratio to 35 (default is 50). You shouldn't see too much of a difference and it may solve your problem. And if it's a new TV, you could try setting it back to 50 again after the so-called 'break-in period'. Hope this helps.

Good luck,
