1. Raise the vacuum head all of the way up. 2. Remove the vacuum head by removing the belt and releasing it. 3. Place the shampooer head on the vacuum by securing the clamp and them put the belt on 4. Take the bag off of the vacuum by twisting at the base just slightly outward and lifting upwards and unclamp it from the handle 5. Put water and cleaner into the water resevoir. 6. Put the reservoir on to the kirby where the bag was by holding it parallel to the vacuum then using both hands, twist it outward slowly until it goes down onto the unit then twist back to parallel position. 7. Put the coil looking piece on the shampooer head on top where the hole is...it will only fit one way successfully. 8. Put the other end on the under side of the water reservoir. 9. Lower the shampooer head all of the way down on the carpet just like you would the vacuum head 10. Turn on the vacuum and reach down and turn the knob at the top of the reservoir, this will begin putting cleaner (tons of foam) onto the carpet. Just work in 3' x 3' sections, turning off the foam intermitently until you are finished. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: need instructions
I used the information to help me get the belt back to where it needed to be. My daughter forgot to move the handle to belt off before removing the head. So now we are back and vaccuming up the Christmas tree needles. Thanks

Lift the head two pedal clicks off the carpet.
Lift the headlight and you will find a silver thumb dial to remove the carpet head. At the front of the head there is a square dial which you must rotate to release the belt if not broken. Rotate the square dial , then release the silver thumb dial under the light housing and the head will detach.
Flip it upside down to expose the brush and open the grate covering the brush. Note on either end there are colored leveling blocks for the brush. Reinstall with same colors showing.
Clean any hair and thread from the brush roll and insert new genuine belt. reinstall in opposite order, Be sure to turn the square dial backward to align the belt in a twist pattern before reinstalling the head onto the vac. Then lower onto carpet with pedal.

Here's a very helpful video that we've shot showing you exactly how to replace the belt on a Kirby Generation series, including your Ultimate G. The video also shows you how to perform basic maintenance on your roller brush to prolong the life of the belt as long as possible. If you haven't already purchased a belt, and need to buy a new one, here's a link to the exact belt that's used on your repair:
