Try putting a hose clamp around the rings and gently tighten it then with the piston in the cylinder tap the piston easy with a rubber mallet. Make sure you oil the cylinder rings and piston.

Motorcycle is losing compression and noisy

if it is a water cooled engine the ring gap at the bottom of the cylinder should be around .010"
rings have to be installed the correct way up or the compression doesn't help push the rings against the cylinder walls for effective seal
piston skirts will touch the cylinder walls as the pressure pushes the piston to one side as it pushes the piston back down the cylinder
I have to ask did you put an old piston back in the new cylinder
was the new cylinder standard size or over size
what was the ring gap before you fitted them to the piston
did you use new rings or the old ones --maximum rin gap is .025"
rings don't wear in , just wear out
why did you replace the cylinder in the first place
was it because of low compression or taper wear
as silly as all this seams it is all very relevant to your question

Husqvarna 266se everything is brand new piston, rings cylinder carb coil muffler and it still won't start even checked the timing it is set right

did you replace the worn out seals on the crank shaft?
if not then the compression made when the piston comes down into the sump to push the mixture up in to the cylinder is lost and there is no air to compress for the next power stroke
when the piston goes back up , the low pressure in the sump sucks air past the worn seals and not an air/fuel mix
probably the reason that you thought that you had to replace the rings and piston in the first place

How can I fix an old lawnflite edger 2.5 briggs and stratton with no compression HELP

First question, is it worth it? Or is this a sentimental unit... If you don't care about spending money then get yourself a new piston and rings assy. Remove the exhaust and look at the cylinder walls though first, if they look smooth, then you can avoid getting a whole new cylinder as well. My opinion, I would just replace all, the cylinder , the piston and rings... The problem you have could be bad rings, scorn piston and cylinder. .. either way, costly if you're not repairing it yourself.

I have 2002 dr z 250 can the cylinder be bored out, or do just replace with new.

Yes the cylinder can be bored, BUT, it would be sent to a company in California for the work. The cylinder has a nickel plated surface that will be destroyed by the bore job. After the boring is done they re-plate the cylinder and send back a new oversize piston and rings along with the re-plated cylinder. The cost is around $400. It will take about 3 weeks to get the cylinder back.

A brand new cylinder will cost around $420, piston $48 and rings $35 for a total of just over $500. The time needed will be depending on whether or not your dealer has the parts on hand. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

How do I get to the piston rings on a 1981 honda xl 500 off

the cylinder will slide off the top of the piston, then you can replace the rings and slide the cylinder back down over the top of the piston. The bottom edge of the cylinder sleeve should have a small chamfer in it to aid in getting the rings into the cylinder.
