Question about Maytag Cooktops

Open Question

I have a Maytag radiant glass cooktop, model CCE3401W. The left rear burner will not heat. Howver the indicator light under the control knob stays on continuously, regardless of the position of the knob control. Is it likely I have a bad burner switch? If so, how do I access it for replacement? How do I dissassemble to access the inside parts.

If the light circle around the knob stayed on, then you have the same problem I just had. I purchased a OEM replacement switch via ebay for $38. Very simple replacement, but take your time so you understand how it works. It took an hour to install and works fine now. Here is the link to the parts list:

If you can, take pictures with your phone of how everything is assembled before you take it apart. It will save you hours of aggravation.

I must say, Jenn-Aire (Whirlpool Corp) was less than helpful. I asked for some advice prior to purchasing the replacement part and all they would tell me is they were willing to schedule an authorized repair shop to come over. The closest was a 2.5 hour drive each way, and the travel time cost was $85/hour. Plus the part at list price ($90 something) and installation was going to cost $600. Give me a break.

Most likely the problem is in the heat control switch.Cannot be repaired you will have to replace it. To make sure, swap it with one of the other burners that do not have the problem. If the problem goes away, you know its the switch.

One of the high heat sensors has failed on one of the burners under the glass. Disconnect one sensor at a time to find out which one, then replace that burner assembly.

The on indicator light stay on all the time on Maytag touch 500


you have a bad switch, you need to unplug the wire going to the conector marked P on one switch at a time til you find witch switch is bad. if you have turned off the breaker to it and the light is still on then the power is not off to it there is not a batery in it, careful that glass breaks easy when out of it's can

LIGHT STAYS ON FOR HOURS BUT THE TOP HAS COOLED


if its going out, its probably ok
its not a light indicating the burner is on, rather that the glass is abcove 100 degrees and still not safe to put something on
2 hours is a bit long but it depends on how fst the surface can cool of
you can test this by trying to cool it off faster with a fan ans see what happens

Downdraft Slide-In Range


I have the radiant cooktop (i.e., glass top) version of this range. I've had this same problem since I first purchased this unit. I wondered why no one answered this question, as I check back to see from time to time. I finally contacted Jenn-Air's online support. My conversation was as follows (I'm not entirely sure that the tech support knew what she was talking about, but here you go anyway):
