Take the battery off, and to the left of the battery connetion tabs is a small gold button, push and hold for 10 seconds. It should start up after doing this.

Hi I would think the best place to start is with ARCHOS,
give them the lowdown and see what they come up with.
You could use the Archos forum and look through the help files
I had the exact same problem, I looked a bit on the net and I found the answer. What you have to do is push the reset button when your archos isn't plugged on. The reset button is located behind the battery ( you'll have to the remove the battery ) near the pins that connects the archos to its battery. It looks like a gold circle and if you push it you'll see it's a button. After pushing the reset button try to put the battery on back again and replug your archos, it should work normally now. if you wouldnt mind losing data then i suppose you could format it and get rid of the firmware update and the put all your stuff back on. only a suggestion.
If you enter recovery mode then connect to a computer, you can then use windows drive checker to verify the drive. If all is OK, copy firmware to the root then disconnect and reboot
Just watching a movie and my archos just froze in mid play , did a switch off to rest it and guess what it wont restart , ses ARCHOS in green at the start but wont reeboot have tried the reset button inside but no joy what so ever , any tips or advice 'or shall i just ship it back to Archos ....
