Never used a cam before, i've just installed it, how do i get to use it ?

You don't get to use it. Go to documentary film school first, and get a second major in semiotics.

...if you get impatient while you're doing that, you can run an IM or video chat program that suits you. Check out VersionTracker or your cohorts for likely programs compatible with your OS...though OSNews.com might help, too.

Follow the instructions below to use your webcam

Click on Start then >Control panel>hardware and sound >device manager>imaging devices>web cam....enable it
Another way is to use a IM application like Yahoo messenger,NetMeeting,etc. They will have video capabilities that will work with your webcam.

If there are no error status codes under device manager, then either you have some OS corruption and need to reinstall the OS or the webcam is defective. I would be more inclined to say the latter.
Skype is a good test, since you've obviously done that its most likely bad.
You could test the os theory by downloading hiren boot cd, burn the image to disc and boot into the mini xp live part, install skype and driver under it and test the web cam.
If its under warrenty just have them replace the web cam, if not i could replace it at a reasonable price. Comment back for additional assistance.

first check the settings on your operating system;
volume may have lowered;
uninstall all the old web cam softwares.;
in your current web cam settings select your web cams microfone and check everything of it i.e. input or output device etc.;
remove your head fones.

Unplug the cam, uninstall any cam software you've got, reboot, install the driver, then plug the cam in.
