I checked it out with a volt meter.

  • jtvnamvett Mar 27, 2011

I found a bad breaker so I replaced it for $7.58 and it took care of the problem.

    Thanks

How certain are you there is power to the unit? It is unlikely the whole unit failed overnight. If you truly have line voltage present all the way to the line-in terminals and the manual switch does not work then the whole timer needs to be replaced.

Again, it is very unlikely the manually controlled contactor has failed without obvious signs of a meltdown so double check you haven't tripped a breaker or a GFI further up the circuit before you replace the timer.

240V line to line and 120V Line to ground on each line?

  • John Prohaska

Not bad considering the timer would have been 10X that amount!

Glad you found your problem...if you get a moment please rate the answer :)

I bought a new intermatic t104p3 and it wouldn't turn on automatically

You have to have the On and Off "trippers" firmly installed against the yellow timer dial and the thumb screws on them must be tight. Turn the time dial by hand to be sure it trips the lever back and forth. If that part if working OK then you will need someone to come and make sure the load (device you're controlling) is connected to it properly and of course the timer is indeed running and appears to be keeping the correct time. You can check that a half hour after setting it to the current time.

What position is lever on intermatic pool timer t104p3 for timer to work?

Lever automatically moves back and forth as trippers pass.
Move lever to ON position, move to the right.
If timer dial is not rotating, then check wiring, or replace clock motor:
If timer worked before and stopped working, but dial still rotates, the trippers are worn down, replace trippers:

99% chance the Timer wires are reversed ... and line from breaker and line to pump are reversed. Or remotely possibly the circuit is 240V, and somebody changed clock motor on old T101 from WG1570 to WG1573, converting old T101 into T102...

My Intermatic T104P3 timer will not turn the pump on. The manual switch works and it does turn off, as set.

1) Manual switch is working, and that says electricity, circuit breaker, wiring, and pump are good.
If timer dial is rotating and keeping good time, then order new 156T1978A trippers.
If dial is not rotating, then order 240Volt WG1573 clock motor.

Intermatic t104p3 pool timer will turn pump ""ON" with Manual Switch but will not shut "OFF" using Manual Toggle. Pool store showed me how to remove and look at the contacts on...

Thank you for including model number so answer can be accurate as possible.

T104P3 timer works with manual override so timer is basically sound.
Clock dial rotates and keeps good time, so WG1573 240Volt clock motor is good.
Trippers do not click on-off lever, so trippers are suspect.
Trippers are made to wear down so that timer mechanism lasts years longer.

I have an intermatic T104P3 timer for my pool and now it won't turn on. I have to start the pool on manual. I have tryed to remove the screw to start and it goes right by it and does not set the pool on....

Hi Dianna, I am timer expert at Fixya

1) When you say screw, I believe you mean tripper?
geno_3245_273.jpg

2) Trippers are placed on dial using thumb screw. Clock motor located on back of mechanism rotates dial. So dial rotates as time passes.
On-off trippers rotate around on the dial and push a lever back and forth that turns pump on-off.
Trippers are designed to wear down so that timer mechanism lasts longer.
You can buy replacement trippers for T100 series timers at Grainger:
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/timer-accessories/timers/electrical/ecatalog/N-8hi

3) You posted under T104 timer.
Notice that grainger also sells WG1573 240Volt clock motors for the T104.
Clock motors slow down and burn out.
Clock motors are replaced by tipping mechanism out of box using thumb spring located inside box at top. Clock motor is attached with 2 small star screws. Buy star screwdriver at auto parts or hardware.
When ordering trippers, you might want extra clock motor on hand for when the dial stops rotating.

4) Open following link to see manual and wiring instructions for T104.

Power is good going into the timer but the timer is not running. I am wondering if there is a fuse that needs to be changed or a reset switch? The timer has been replaced in the last year.

If I understand correctly, you have T-104 240V timer.
Timer was running fine before, and recently stopped working.
If this is not your timer, add a comment.

1) Click manual override back and forth to see if Load turns on-off.
If Load does not turn on-off, then check power at Load.
Timer has 5 terminals A 1 2 3 4
Check terminals 2 and 4 for 240Volts when Load is ON

2) Check terminals 1 and 3 for 240Volts to make sure timer has full 240V and breaker is not tripped OFF on one leg. If timer has 120V, it appears to have voltage, but clock will not rotate and Load will not turn on-off. Check breaker for 240V across both screws.

3) Is dial rotating?
If dial is not rotating or is stuck in place, replace 208-277V clock motor.
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/timer-accessories/timers/electrical/ecatalog/N-8hi
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/INTERMATIC-Time-Clock-Motor-1PNK2?Pid=search

4) If dial is rotating, but trippers don't flip on-off lever, then trippers may be worn down. Buy new trippers.
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/INTERMATIC-Timer-Tripper-2E054?Pid=search

5) How to wire T104 timer
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html

How timer works
:
Clock motor rotates dial.
ON-OFF trippers on dial contact lever.
ON tripper pushes lever one direction.
OFF tripper pushes lever other direction.
Lever moves electrical contacts together, or pulls contacts apart.
When lever moves on-off, manual override lever also snaps back and forth with audible clicking sound.

How to set Intermatic T104P3 - Pool-Spa Mechanical Time Switch... I believe this is the correct model. There are no instructions or data left on the gray metal box to verify what it is.. I got the model...

The T-104 is a 240Volt timer that will not work for 120V circuits
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html

The above link gives you information about the T104 T103 T101 in case you need to buy another timer
The difference is the voltages on the lines and voltage of the clock

1) How to sort out what you have:
-Which circuit breaker operates the timer and pump? If your circuit breaker is 240, then the pump is 240 and the timer is 240 so you most likely have the T-104
-To double-check: turn off the power and look at the name plate on the pump >>> the name plate will show voltage of the pump
-If breaker is 120, then you have T-101 that has three terminal screws inside the timer, or you have T-103 with 5 terminal screws inside the timer.

OK that's the basic information:
You say your trippers don't work.
Does the manual override work?

2) If the manual override does NOT work when you click it back and forth, and the unit has electricity, then the timer is probably bad. You can buy a new timer, and swap out the insides with old timer without replacing box.

3) If the manual override DOES work, then best news of all ... you may need new tripper pins
