My canon 30D comes up with err 99 pleas help

My first stab at guessing would be the older-style lens can't communicate to the 40D, resulting in a read error. Any problem when using other newer lenses?

Try doing a full format of the card using the camera - don't just delete all images. Then re-zero the shot count. See if that helps.

Deleting photos of my camera

Your camera creates folders on the SD card to hold the images. It puts about 100 images in each folder. (See page 111 in the User Guide.) When you erase images, it may only be erasing the images in one folder. But your computer still sees the images in the other folder(s). To completely erase all images, use the "Format" function (see pages 25 - 26 in the User Guide). To completely clear it, use the Low Level Format option. You can download the User Guide here.
