Question about Onkyo DV-CP704 DVD Player
I had a similar problem with Onkyo DV-CP706--it would play CD's but wouldn't play or recognize DVD's. Looking at other people with Onkyo problems, it looks like this is the most common part to fail on their DVD players. I had mine fixed by an authorized Onkyo repair center, ABL Electronics, located in Michigan. They said a part called "DVD Mechanism" was bad. They replaced that part, cleaned the machine and ran diagnostic checks for other problems, then sent it back to me. It now works perfectly and makes less noise than it did when it was new. If your Onkyo unit is still under the limited warranty, they will fix it for you for free. Mine wasn't, so it ended up costing just a little less than buying a new machine, but I feel like it was worth it. You never know what you'll get with a new machine, especially if you buy online.

Similar Issue happen to one of my client what we have done is putting the JPEG files into folders (Not Subfolder). It worked well however some JPEG images being skipped if the size is unusual. JPEG images will appear as tracks. Hope this will be helpful. If issue persist please post once more. Also let me know if WMA files are being played.

Not sure I can solve, but maybe help. I am having a similiar problem. However, make sure you Analog Audio (RCA type) cable are connected even if using Digital connection between the two. They use those cable to send the Commands (Mentioned in the documentation).
If you did get yours to work, please give me a hint... I upgraded mine from a 603 to a 701 and haven't been able to get it to work since.
