Oil pressure light comes on at stops in gear when engine is warm. Light goes off in nuetral & park

Hi Cindy:
Make, model, and year would help, also kms.
I'm guessing an older vehicle with high mileage.
You could go try a heavier weight oil, like 15 w-40, or an additive like STP.
If it's not using a lot of oil between changes, it's probably old and tired.............. Sort of like me.

The igniter doesn't stay red hot. Why does the heater quit?

In general... I guess:
(no model, make, serial number or year provided)...

"The igniter does not stay red hot"...

That is a VERY good thing... The igniter is only designed to be hot long enough to get the heat cycle started (hot surface ignition).

Typically there are heat sensors and high temp and low temperature thermostats... design to keep your units operation within safe operating thresholds.

You have not actually shared your area of concern... but an experienced GUESS (better guesses available with a couple of clues... model, make, etc.) is going to be... your burner is failing.

A careful look in immediate the area (pilot) is going to reveal some sort of thermo-couple (safety: must be hot for MAIN valve to operate).

Always get three prices before you purchasee
(do indeed get ebay and amazon (but factor in shipping)).

Good luck & happy hunting!

Why does it take 25 minutes to preheat to around 400 degrees ?

If it's a gas range, I'd guess you have a pressure problem at the source. There should be some sort of pressure regulator at the gas tank. It might need adjusting or replacing. In other words, your oven might not be getting enough gas pressure to create a large enough flame. It should take only five or ten minutes to reach 400 degrees.

My compressor comes on for a few second, makes a slight humming sound, then goes silent; any suggestions?

Please realize I'm not a professional compressor repairman.

Your description "comes on for a few second, makes a slight humming sound, then goes silent" leaves me guessing. When you say "comes on" does that mean it "makes the pumping sound of a compressor" or it "Clicks"? Allow my musings.

On a plugged in and turned on compressor the compressor's pressure switch turns on the pump motor when the pressure falls below it's set low pressure threshold (usually ~ 90 psi). The pumps pushes air into the pressure tank until the pressure reaches its high pressure threshold (usually ~ 120 psi). If the compressor is not plugged in or turned on you can hear a click when the pressure switch turns on.

Aside: Leaks, of any sort, make the pumping more frequent or longer. Bad leaks can make it pump continuous because the high pressure threshold is never reached. The leaks can be in the switch, at line connections or in the pump (valves or piston rings) itself.

I once had a low-volume ultra-quiet compressor that made little more noise than a hum when compressing. If yours is not an ultra-quiet (clicks on, hums, and quits) than I'd have to guess that the pump might be binding instead of pumping. If it is binding then the motor would over-heats and shuts off.

Some compressors are oil cooled. If an oil cooled compressor was extremely low on oil would it bind? I suspect so.

If you suspect binding I'd find a parts list for your model to work from and disassemble the pump to investigate. (see link below)

That's my best guess on limited information. Good luck.

Have 2001 s10 extreme. Oil pressure low at idle, only goes up to15 pounds of pressure at 2000 rpm. motor run great,no noises. Been like this for about 7 months

change the oil and filter-use 20w50 oil and see if that helps-you are heading for a motor rebuild if it doesn't get any better-Denny

I have a 2000 silverado 2500 4x4 auto transmission. I noticed today a puddle under the tranny. I looked at the yranny and found a black rubber tube attached to a hanger but not connected to anything...

Hi Chris. Not very familiar with these particular transmissions, but if the tube is "dripping" fluid and not "spraying" fluid, I would have to say that this tube may be some sort of pressure relief or overflow as you had suggested. Did you have the transmission serviced or add fluid recently? If so, I'd guess that it may have been slightly overfilled. As you drive your truck and the fluid in the transmission heats up it expands and fluid pressure can/will increase. If the system pressure is too high it can do as much internal damage to your transmission as running low on fluid will. This tube may the outlet of a pressure relief device. Keep an eye on it... if it persists I'd have someone qualified take a look.

Any ideas? fuel starvation on 94 m3. problem is fuel coming from filter but not reaching injectors. whats inbetween i see pipe goes under intake but what to? cheers in advance gotta get this sorted.

the only thing that would be stopping the fuel from reaching the injectors, if.. the fuel filter is good is the fuel pressure regulator, its ran by vaccum, on the end of the fuel rail, one of the lines hook to it... that would be my guess.
