The issue is Im not using a router. Im using a telstra mobile usb dongle that I cant change the router settings you speak of.

  • mbart79 Mar 29, 2011

I cant because of this bit

"if you are going to use port forwarding. When you have port forwarding setup, your router forwards ports to an ip address that you specify. "

Since Im using a mobile internet dongle and not a router it wont forward to the port I tell it too

  • mbart79 Apr 02, 2011

I did that and my xbox didnt connect to the internet at all

  • mbart79 Apr 03, 2011

I opened the ports you suggested in the first place in my windows firewall. There is no way to change the settings on my Telstra wireless

  • mbart79 Apr 07, 2011

Im still having issues and the expert isnt helping.

    Please help

Hi, First you can reset the settings for NAT that was there formally before you changed it and after that you call your service provider for help to rectify the problem...

You can also use the link for more information about NAT..

They will be of help..

With the Xbox 360, Microsoft have defined three categories of NAT.

These are: Strict, Moderate, and Open. You can see the NAT level for your Xbox Live connection by going into your System blade > Network Settings > Test Xbox Live Connection. The type of NAT deployed by your mobile broadband provider will affect your ability to host and join Xbox Live games. Unfortunately, the NAT settings for mobile broadband services are controlled by the provider and there's no getting around a service with a NAT set to Strict. You have to contact with them to solve your problem.

On the xbox Live scale of "Strict," "Moderate," and "Open," you really need that to say "Open").

To make it read "Open," you need to forward the following ports through your router to your Xbox (which means you'll also need a static IP address on your Xbox):

  • UDP 88
  • UDP 3074
  • TCP 3074
go here to get specific instructions on how to give your xbox a static ip address

that alone may solve your issue ... if you are using a router that site will also walk you thru port settings. i have supplied (above) the settings you will need to perform the port forwarding.

XBOX 360 strict NAT problem

Make sure you also open the ports on your router. IF you have all the appropriate ports open and still have strict NAT, it's more than likely your ISP and you should give them a call.

Cant connect 2 wireless

At any cost do not disable the NAT - because thisis the feature which allows multiple device to work with router

So only option you've got now is to reset the router. It should be at the rear end of the router. Hold onto it for 30 seconds, u'll see the light flash and router reboot

Once you've done with that - configure router and make it work.

And as of for the Xbox Issue try these steps:

1 - Assign a Static IP address in the Xbox:
- Go To Network Settings - Configure Network
- Change IP settings to Manual
- IP Address: Subnet Mask: Gateway:
- DNS settings to Manual
- Primary DNS: Secondary DNS:

2 - with any of the Wired Computers
- open IE - type - - u'll get the Router Interface
- left hand side in the list of options
- click Firewall - leave password blank - disable and apply changes
- click Virtual Servers;
- under enable place a checkmark
- description : Xbox, Inbound Pot : 80(if there are two boxes here duplicate in both the boxes), Type: TCP, Private IP: 45, Private Port: 80
- So Similarly fill up the table for these following Ports
TCP: 80, UDP: 88 Both(TCP&UDP): 53, 3074

Additional Note:

If u've a DSL connection, call ur ISP and make sure ur modem is bridged and the NAT is disabled

How do I hook up to Xbox Live with VZAccess MiFi 2200

I can connect using mifi2200 and play as long as I want. However I do receive the message about NAT. Says mine is set to moderate. I have no idea how to change it to Open. I did have a regular usb modem and was connecting using it. My main problem is I cannot party up with friends on xbox live because my NAT is not OPEN. But for an answer just set up and internet connection sharing through your mifi and you will be able to connect to xbox live.

How do i set my Netgear Routers NAT type to open for playing xbox 360 games?

I assume you know the ip adress of your xbox.

First of all check on your router to see if UPNP is enabled.

Then go to Portforwarding/Port triggering.

Then add custom service

service name: the name of how you call it. doesn't matter really
service type is UDP
start port 88
end port 88
server ip is the adress of your xbox

then apply and make another custom service

name it how you want
service type tcp/udp
start port 3074
end port 3074
server ip adress of you xbox

this should work

Opening nat

You just need to enable port forwarding for the ports that the xbox live is using, specifically these ports:

UDP 88
UDP 3074
TCP 3074

You then assign a the static IP you have set on your router, subnet, gateway and dns on your xbox and that should allow your xbox live to work properly with your router.
