Question about Whirlpool Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

My micro-wave #WMH 2175XVS1 will not heat. All other fuction appear normal. Technician loked at it and said he needed to replace the transformer, magnatron, diode, capacitor. all cost more than a new unit. He never checked the door switch. I am not sure it would fuction normally with the door switch bad but I am not sure . Would like to change the cheapest part first to see if it works Thanks George

I have a hard time believing that ALL the high-voltage parts would be bad at one time, especially the transformer. That's a part that almost never goes bad. I don't think I'd trust the tech's diagnosis.

However, a bad door switch will keep the oven from working properly, so the tech is right about the trouble being in the magnetron or its associated parts. This doesn't mean they are all bad, though. The most common failure is the magnetron itself, which can burn out like a light bulb. Then everything appears to work but there's no heat. I think the tech who looked at your oven may not have known how to check the individual parts, or didn't want to take the time to check, and just decided to tell you they were all bad. If they really are, it's certainly less expensive to buy a new oven.

The trouble could be in the control circuit board or connections to it, so it doesn't on the power to the magnetron power supply. I have seen bad solder connections and loose terminals cause no heating. You should have the oven checked over again by another technician who will actually checks voltages and test parts to determine what's wrong. It only takes a few minutes to do it right, and then you'll be able to make your decision to repair or replace the oven.

Prestige gs25 microwave won't heat

no the problem is more than your fuze! Micro waves have a high voltage output transformer inside that goes bad. You can fix it yourself but if your not good with electronics I would have someone else do the job!

We have a commercial 3 burner Bunn automatic coffee maker that only puts out warm water and makes weak coffee

If you're sure that you've followed the operation procedures correctly, the the thermostat of the Micro wave needs to be adjusted by a qualified person/Technician. if the problem persist, then you need to change the Element/Heating coil of the M-wave.

My microwave starts however food does not heat up.

Micro wave as the name suggests produces heat when the micro waves aimed at an object causes the water molecules inside the object to vibrate hence producing heat. The gadget responsible is the magnetron. If your magnetron is not receiving ht voltage or receiving but faulty, then your micro wave wont work please take precaution when opening micro wave due to high voltage caps that remain charged sometimes even when it is off.check the high voltage fuse/ diode and capacitor if they are fine and the step up trans former o.k then the only option is to replace the magnetron

Oven appears to function normally but doesn't cook at all.

With micro waves, this could be a number of things. They are hard to diagnose using this forum but I'll try. There are three things you can check. One being the thermal fuse. On some models, when it goes bad it put some things out. with others it puts every thing out.
if it's good, check the mag tube (Magnatron). Most of the time, it will be burned on the end if it's bad. tube. The last thing would be the fuse. It is made of ceramic and is a 20amp. It looks like a old round car fuse but it's not. It's made just for micro waves. Honestly, if the thermal fuse and the round 20 amp fuse is not the problem, you may be able to replace the micro wave cheaper than replacing the parts.
Thermal fuse $28.99.
Round 20amp fuse $1.53
Transformer $100.00.
Mag tube $87.00
Capacitor $45.00
Go to www.appliancepartspro.com and enter your model number. This will pull up every part in the micro wave and their prices. Then you will ba able to decide if you want to replace the parts. With yours being one that's built-in over the stove. These cost more and are worth putting more into. If I can help any more comment back and I'll do what I can.

Will not heat. has power going to transformer

Hi,

There are a couple of steps you can do inorder to varify the main reason for your micro wave not heating.

Microwave doesn't activate / heat.
  1. Make sure microwave is plugged in properly.
  2. Check that door closes completely and its latch is aligned.
  3. Check that interlock switch in door works properly (required for activating microwave).
  4. Replace a blown fuse if it's accessible, or contact a service technician.
  5. Inspect plastic coupling beneath tray.
  6. Check ring and roller assembly for misalignment or debris.
  7. Make sure that tray is sitting properly on turning mechanism.
  8. If carousel motor is broken, contact a service technician.
  9. Make sure there's no aluminum foil or metal trim on dishware.
  10. Food residue or burned spots can cause electrical arcing. Clean chamber thoroughly. Replace wave-guide cover if burned or carbonized.
  11. Sand away burn spots, and smooth rough metal edges.
  12. Touch up spots with microwave interior paint if necessary.
  13. If chamber has burn holes, contact a service technician.
After doing these steps I am sure you would be able to figure out the problem area.

Please let me know if you need any further information.

God Bless.

Q - The microwave display counts down and the inside light is on,  but nothing is heating and the fan is not running.
A - This most commonly is a bad door switch, other possible problems are a faulty relay or solder joint on the power module, but a bad door switch is most common.
Q - My microwave is running and sounds like it is working but will not heat up anything.
A - Many thing can do this but, common things are....loose high voltage wire.....poor solder joint on board.....magnetron.....power relay.....
Q - The microwave makes a loud "hum or buzz" noise but will not heat up the food?
A - 9 times out of 10 this is usually this is a bad magnetron, the other time is sometimes a bad high voltage diode. See components section.

GE Over range microwave, JVM1660

This just happened to ours as well. Apparently the magnetron (device that creates radio waves that heat the food) is broken. I'm trying to pry the darn thing out of our kitchen now so I can replace the magnetron. Look for this part WB27X10489 on Google. I found it on ebay for $65. If it fixes the problem I'll post again.
