Question about HP Compaq nc6000 Notebook
Originally when computer was turned on the blue light (far left) would come on and then the orange (third from left). After a few seconds, on battery OR adapter only, they would both go out, on battery & adapter the orange light would flicker and stay on The RAM,HDD,AC adapter plug,CD drive& RAM were all removed and re-seated. After doing this the computer would sometimes boot up and open Windows (XP) normally. This process was done powering from the battery alone, the adapter alone and with both connected. On some occasions after about 30 seconds the screen would freeze and the only operational key was the on/off button. On some occasions after about a minute Windows would close down and automatically restart, & go through the process again & again. Rarely would the computer operate for an hour. The fan is exhausting warm air from the back rear corner on each occasion. On two occasions after Windows shut down automatically, during the restart the following message occurred.
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:

There has been no new hardware or software installed.
The problem is with the mother board, there is a short near the fan. The machine is on its last legs.

Guys i have the same laptop and has been facing the same problem for sometime now.
The problem is with your VGA. I got it repaired couple of times and it started working again. But the guy who repaired told me to sell it as it wont last much. After about a month i started having same problem. First it used to stuck... then start working again. Later when it is running, screen would freeze and you can not do anything then to restart. And after sometime, it woud simply not boot. The lights would come on and off and nothing happen.
I do not know how they repair but im sure it isn't a big deal. They do this in just about half an hr. The problem is related to VGA, they kind of clean it. So if some of you know how to do this, please share.

Reseat everything again. Clean your fan with canned air.
Do a CHKDSK if there any problems with the hard disk. Do you have any of the startup CD that came with your laptop?
