Dell Latitude Problems

Hello all, about 2 months ago I set my laptop open on my floor while I was out of the house. Well my mom let our puppy loose and it **** just a LITTLE bit of **** directly on the power button. Every couple of weeks I'm able to get the computer to fully turn on, but once it shut it down the same problem occurs. The Problem: On the right side of the computer, the light above the battery charging is on, when I take the battery out and unplug it, then put everything back in, all the lights turn on for a second, but then disappear and show only the battery light again. Is the computer fried? It's just weird to me that every once in awhile I can get the thing to finally turn on, I have no data lost when it finally does fire up. Can someone please tell me if they know the issue? TY

Liquid, pee in your case, no matter how small, can cause an electrical short and fry motherboard components. I'm going to say that it has fried a component, and you'll want to have it checked out. Since the unit does start on occasion, then it's most likely going to be a replaceable component, probably the power switch circuit.

Latitude 510 battery light flashing amber and white

Hello, the problem you are having is caused by a loose connection on your motherboard between the charging port and the motherboard. You can either open your computer and try to solder it, or you will need to replace the motherboard.

Another possible cause is that your laptop charger is dead. If you can't confirm, just get a new ac adapter, it is much cheaper than replacing the motherboard:

Agree, Mr_gauravin.

[ In case you cannot directly download the Service Manual in PDF file format, here is the Dell Support link,

Click right on - Dell Latitude E5400 and E5500 Service Manual (1698KB) ]

1) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

2) Use an ESD wrist strap, and connect to a good ground source.
(Electro Static Discharge)
One example,

[I connect to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an open, empty desktop computer case.
You can also set a large metal serving tray, (Unpainted), on the table you are working on, or use a large metal knickknack (Unpainted) ]

3) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove. Label each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.
SOME screws look VERY similar to other screws.
Advise DO NOT mix them up.

4) The wireless switch is composed of two spring metal flat strip contacts, inside a plastic housing. One flat spring steel strip is stationary.
The other spring steel flat strip slides over it, to make a contact. It slides over a 'bump', or protrusion, on the stationary flat strip.
The wireless button is attached to the movable strip.

Due to;
A) Poor design
B) Low quality materials
C) Accidental bumping of wireless switch button

,can make the wireless switch defective.

I have been searching to find the switch itself to no avail. Perhaps you can find one, or some other expert on here has a link to one.
(Suggest check 'Mom and Pop' computer stores, to see if they have one from a 'parts' laptop)

IF, one cannot be procured, then suggest you use a USB wireless adapter. Use it's wireless capabilities, which will bypass the wireless module in the laptop.

One example,

IF you do find a wireless switch, in the Service Manual click on -
System Board. Follow the procedures down to -
Palm Rest.
(Palm Rest Cover)

This should gain you access to the switch.

This is along shot but you may have picked up a virus a few months ago, do a full system scan, also download malwarebytes anti-malware and do a full scan, if nothing shows up consider a full windows operational install, I have found in some cases it fixes the video problem.

Internet access just stopped working!

Open Device Manager and check to make sure that the Wireless Adapter is not disabled. The red X can be caused by that. If it has the red X on it, right click and choose 'enable'. That should take care of it. If it doesn't, please let me know and we can look a little deeper.
