Question about Mr. Heater Propane Outdoor Heater/Cooker

1 Answer

Hello, I hope you can help me. My Mr. Heater outdoor heater/cooker is not working properly. For some reason it does not hold the flame. Its as though the propane is not coming through the lines. When I hold in the igniter until the flame burns orange, I release the igniter, and it is suppose to hold the flame, but it cuts out. I have to hold the igniter in manually the whole time.

I have a Mr Heater infra red propane wall heater. My problem is it turns itself off (pilot light) after running for an hour or two. I have no problem getting it turned back on but for some reason it d

Your pilot flame should be blue with a small yellow tip, and it should cover the thermocouple (a small rod in front of the pilot light). If the flame is too small and doesn't cover the thermocouple, it may be adjusted too low, or you have low gas pressure or you have a leak in your gas line coming in to the heater. If the flame looks like a lazy yellow flame, you are probably not getting enough air to the flame. Check that your air openings around the pilot are not clogged up. If the flame looks like a waving blue flame then you probably have excessive draft at the pilot. If the pilot flame looks good and covers the thermocouple, then the thermocouple might be bad. Best of luck. I hope I have helped.

Solid diagnostic light, fan comes on, ignitor works, furnace lights, then goes out after 2-3 seconds---help

Hello, sounds like a dirty flame sensor, this is a metal rod on the oppsite side of the hot surface igniter. All you need to do is remove the flame sensor and clean it with some steel wool and reinstall.

Panel won't hold a flame

this could have to do with the main gas feeds to the ceramic panels . they might be obstructed with a spider web or dirt, foriegn material etc.
easiest fix is to take a air compresser with a blow gun tip and blow out ant foriegn material or spider webs from the gas feed pipes to
the ceramic burners.
the gas feed pipes have large air induction holes that a small blow gun can fit its nozzle into to blow out the gas feed pipes without
having to disassemble them.
that is a big time & work saver.
I took my gas feed lines to the ceramic burners all apart, only to get out a spider web that i could have blown out with compressed air and saved myself 2 hours work.

anything inside the gas feed pipes to the ceramic burners will result in dark spots or the panels not staying lite, irratic burning
or no burning at all.
the gas needs to be able to get through unimpeded at proper flow and proper pressure for proper burning.
a spider web will mess up proper gas flow. some gas, but not enough gas will get through and ceramic wont burn well and might not hold a flame.

clean out the foriegn material from the ceramic gas feed lines.

Rare posibility,if the gas behind the ceramic element escapes around the edges of the ceramic, through a bad seal of the gasket,
this also will stop the ceramic from burning well.

mr heater is not made for easy diaassembly so try not to do more work than you have to.

use compressed air rather than taking mr heater all apart to clean out a gas feed pipe.

Hi there, I have a Mr. Heater MH24T heater and the problem I am having is when I run one or both sides of the heater the plenum glows red and only the top of the screen is lit and it makes a fluttering...

Hello campcurti81,

Mr. Heater expends about 50% of it's instruction
MANUAL stating & re-repeating the MH24T (your)
HEATER
is not suited for heating enclosed spaces...

And yet...
Here you are reporting that it is our sole reason
for being here is because it is your "MEANS" of
not staying cold in the winter weather...

Other than being in need of constant supervision &
quite hazardous... these heaters are fairly simple:

The screens need to be replaced when the infrared
element fails (on AMAZON... $19.48)
Amazon com Mr Heater Grid Screen Kit for Tank Top Heaters Home Kitchen

Also cheaper at eREPLACEMENT ($14.36 ++ tax/ship'n)
Mr Heater HVAC Parts Great Selection Great Prices eReplacementParts com

And (do not over-tighten) those
THERMOCOUPLES if the flame won't stay on after
the ignition count (eBay $6.99 + tax... FREE shipping)
Mr Heater Thermocouple for MH12 MH12C MH12T MH12CS MH12TS MH24T MH24TS...

Hope this helps (be safe: read + heed those warnings)

I have an Enviro propane fireplace insert installed last year & it worked fine. The tank & regulator were changed because I got another gas supplier. For some reason now I have a low flame....

It sounds to me like you need to increse gas pressure. Most propane fired units need at least a 11 inch water column of pressure for proper operation. This relates closely 7.5 ounces. I would have regulator checked out by qualified service techs. Thank you

Can't get an outdoor propane heater to light.

turn off propan and heater. Undo the connector hose. then rehook hosewith heater valve off, Turn on propane valve real slow. Propane bottle valves have a safety that senses rapid escape, like in a wide open dump. This should reset it.Then light the pilot . should work.
