SOURCE: Philips turntable af 829

Specifically the turntable AF-829:
I had exactly the same problem, and fixed this succesfully.
The problem is in one of the opto-coupler combinations (LED + LDR).

There are two, both located in the mechanical part of the turntable:

1. The first is for the detection when the arm reaches the end of the record, so that it will return to base. This is a red LED with an optocoupler in a little black case. This is OK.

2. The second one is for detection that the arm has reached the beginning of the record area. You can test this by manually pulling the arm from base and moving it towards the record. Then the turntable should start to rotate. You will see it does not.
The problem is that either the LED has not got enough light-emission any more, or the LDR has become more insensitive. It's a transparent LED that radiates RED light.

I replaced the LED by a new (red) one with higher light output, and now it's working fine again.

Good luck!

Marcel.

We have purchased a Philips AF 729 Mark II turntable, where can we purchase a stylus for this model and/or what would be compatible to replace this with?

The styus is a function of the cartridge, not the turntable.

For example, this one is sporting an ortofon cartridge of some sort.

While this one is somethng entirely different...

Identify YOUR cartridge if you just want a stylus for it. Then search for that online. The mount is fairly standard if you really want a whole new cartridge. But cartridge alignment and mounting are tricky without the original jigs that usually accompany a good turntable.

My hook gear has gone bad, I have singer sewing machine model # 834, I need help with how to take the parts off and replace them

http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/singer-834-sewing-machine-parts.aspx

Follow this link, click on the hook gear parts, and you will see a link to a video showing how to install these gears. I was able to follow this video and replace the gears on my old machine. For me it was do-able, but moderately difficult. If you think you're up to it, go for it. Replacing all for gears a t once will cost $50. (Singer 834).

Very little volumn no groun d on stereo - do i

I can't find a reference to the TT-01, but if it's an old school turntable you need to run it through a Phono preamp.

It would help to know what electronics you're using as THAT is where the volume comes from.

The TT should be connected to a specific PHONO input as it includes special preamplification for a Phono cartridge and frequency shaping for the way LP's are recorded (Google RIAA). I imagine it may sound pretty tinny as you have it now.

Old Philips turntable 312 No sound

I am in a similar situation. I recently discovered that exact model turntable in our storage room. The Philips 312. While looking it over, I noticed the stylus is broken. I was wondering where you purchased yours?
