Nope. I get to the drive list but the only blank drive at the top only gives help as an option when i right click, not change letter path, etc. Its an older drive and unfortunately the fantom website doesnt list the driver anymore.

Welcome to Fixya

You might need couple of things there. This could be the enclosure that is having the problem or the harddrive itself. But before that check first if the computer is assigning drive letter to your external harddrive. Here's a tip came from my fellow expert here in Fixya. This is for windows XP. This ons is for Vista and windows 7. If this will not resolved the issue, then you might need to open the enclosure and take out the harddrive and put it to another enclosure. If the new enclosure will fix the problem then you have a bad enclosure. If new enclosure will not detect your harddrive then the problem would be your harddrive already. Hope this helps.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Thank you for using Fixya!

This means that the computer is not detecting the external HD. To troubleshoot this issue further, you need to take out the HD and use a different enclosure and see if the new enclosure will read your HD. You might need to seek assistance from a friend who owns external HD or with a computer tech since this will require you to open the Enclosure and you might need tools which nmay not be ready and available infront of you.

Unfortunately it sounds like it may have crashed. Try placing it on its side and trying again. If it does the same thing the best you may be able to do is find a professional that can get the information off and put on another drive.

Yes it does make a large difference. I did a search on that drive and there a lot of people who had good luck getting a replacement from the manufacturer. As far as a case is concerned I recently purchased one off of amazon and it was very inexpensive. Just look up "drive enclosure" on amazon.

1. if you don't eject the eternal drive properly it could cause the controller board inside the case to fail.
.2. USB drives are to be eject by the windows feature never disconnect while drive is in the port without using the ejection feature.
3. check the drive in another port to see if it can be seen in the computer list.
if not you may a defective usb controller in the case. the drive can be remove and installed into a new case. The drive may not have been damaged.
4. A new case can be purchased at the local computer store.

My Fantom II Hard drive only has a red light on

Sounds like the drive has gone faulty, all you can do is take drive out of case, get USB to HDD - USB "Dongle" and hook up HDD, and see if it works on PC & USB, If YES, then Case and interface are faulty, otherwise the HDD is faulty.

My mac G4 not recognize my 500GB external FantomDrive. HD light is on but Mac can't see it!

If you bought it from a friend, then ask them to reformat it for you as a FAT32 partition. Mac can not see NTFS, which most Windows users use since you get more space on the drive.

If it is brand new and your G4 isn't recognizing it, then I would return it for a new one. I don't trust things that aren't working out of the box, especially when they charge so much for things.

Ext 500G Fantom HD turns on but won't boot up.

Hello,

First of all make sure that the USB port that you are using to connect it to your PC is a USB 2.0 port, and not USB 1.0.

Also if it came with an external power, connect it to the external power before putting on your PC.

This is because the voltage supplied by USB 1.0 is lower than that of USB 2.0 and therefore might not be enough to power up your USB Drive.

After making sure about this, power up your system, and plug the flash drive, then Right-Click on my computer icon, select manage, then go to Disk Management Option.

On the Disk management option Page you should see ALL the drives installed on your system, including the hidden ones, so what you will just do is, try and locate the one representing your flash drive, and right click on it. then select "Change Drive letter and Paths", and give the drive any new, unique letter (i.e alphabet) different from the ones already on your system, and click on OK.

This should make your Hard Drive to be detected automatically.

Kindly keep me posted about the problem

Hope this helps you out.

Goodluck!

Fantom titanium external light turns red on connecting

Hi,

Red is a failure warning but if it only hasppens with the usb plugged in it's mostly likey a failure in the IDE/SATA to USB conversion board.

Take the drive to your local PC shop, ask the techs there to pull the hard drive out of your phantom and test it in a new enclosure. If it works there, buy the enclosure, if it doesn't reply back and let me kow your Country, State and City and I can recommend a pro to look at the actual harddrive if you need files recovered from it.

Hope this helps FixYa

How does a external USB SATA drive dock

yes you can but whether that would make it work or not is a different story.

It depends if the hard drive is still working or not however it would test for certain whether it is working or not.

Drive Being Recognized as Removable Disk

Same issue with my 500 GB TFD500U16. A little more description is that my PC is detecting the power when turning on the drive and the HDD itself is spinning up. Also the Blue light that normally indicates HDD activity by turning Red no longer shows activity but just stays Blue. This indicates that the data side of the HDD is not seated properly. Since mine is out of Warranty, I took it apart and found this to be the exact case.
! ! ! ! Please perform this at your own risk ! ! ! ! Especially if your warranty is still in effect! ! ! By loosening the HDD mounting screws inside that will allow the connection to seat properly and data to be seen.

Drive NOT being recognized by WinXP

Put your ear to the drive and verify if it is making any strange low level sounds. Check to make sure the usb connection wasnt affected. YOu wont need a driver as it appears to be hardware related. Either the enclosure or drive may be failing.
