Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
This may be normal and may also suggest danger. I don't know the atmosphere where you are running your PS3, if this hot and congested, try to put it in a cool corner or an airy place just to check, that the response is same or the fan is normal. If that remains the same, then there is a 100% chance that your GPU is heating up. Your issue is probably the thermal paste on your CPU & GPU has dried up and needs to be replaced. I would advise you stop using your PS3 until you have this done or you risk getting the YLOD.
And never put some fan or vacuum cleaner like thingy near, the exhaust mechanism is out-wards in PS3 and throwing air in, creates hurdle for the default fan.
I hope you will have a clear picture now.

If you have any Confusion, questions or issues regarding your problem do tell me.

What is your question about the YLOD? Typically, it happens for different reasons. Check your A/V connections. If they are not connected, you'll get the YLOD. 2, it has over heated, and has to be taken apart, heated by a heatgun to reform the solder, then new heat gel put on between the board and the cpu/gpu. Pretty easy really. Here is a youtube vid to get you started.

PS3 YLOD - GLOD - BLACKSCREEN

solder reflow on the GPU is the only real way to fix, and it is not guaranteed. Using the heat gun, all you did was reflow (almost) some solder, and most likely mess up other componants on the board. Send it to sony, and guaranteed that anything you didnt back up save game wise is toast. These fly by night companies and people on you-tube using some backwoods way to fix things usually end up screwing up more than they fix.

Chances are that there is now a faulty solder joint (due to the heat application) on a portion of the logic board with the hypervisor to read the games

its done, kaput, if your lucky, you can find a local repair shop...but if you tried the stupid "heat gun" fix, your main board is toast because it has inadvertantly half reflowed other components. The heat gun fix, if done perfect, works maybe 2% of the time for a period of more than a month. Worked on a hundred PS3's and most of the time they come in like that, its a new logic board and almost cheaper to send to sony

Formula 1 2010 is freezing up on start up. Other games are working on console and the Formula 1 game is working on another PS3 console.

I can confidently say your ps3 is about to go YLOD, nothing really that you can do about it, if you wanna continue to use it you will have to do a reflow with a heat gun which is a very delicate process, I would advice you to sell it after doing the reflow and let the person buying know about the impending problem since it is a recurring one, go on youtube and search for "Gilksy ps3 reflow", Hope this helps

Does a new power supply fix the YLOD on ps3?

YLOD can be PSU or system bus (reflow CPU and GPU). It is not however a HDD issue. Inorder for it to be an HDD issue you would have to damage the HDD in susch a way that there is a dead short between +5V and GND or +12V and GND. This is very unlikely.

Reason why it would do it with PSU is that 12V is present but under load can't supply enough current to run PS3 system so voltage drops and resets PS3 system, hence the reason why it can be turned on again everytime but resets itself and gives so called YLOD.

System bus problem (reflow CPU and GPU) system shuts it self down due to internal bus failure.

Playing Battlefield Bad Company PS3 Shut off only blinking red

this could be a problem with over heating of the system, the ps3 will shut its self down if it getts to hot to avoid damage to the cpu and gpu, the easyest option is to try and get a 3rd party cooler for the ps3 or if you have any tech knollage try cleaning out any dust around fans inside, this could include using a vacum cleaner to **** out the dust or a can on air duster which is a tin of air used to blow out dust ,
ether way dont open you console inless its out of warranty as opening ur ps3 will invauldate ur warranty and sony will not want to know and charge you a hefty fee

hope this helps a little cheers
