Question about Washing Machines

Open Question

My Whirlpool washing machine (model LSQ9544KQ) will not spin the water out of the clothes. After researching, I found that the string from the neck of a dress is caught under the wash tub. I took the agitator off and still couldn't pull the dress out. How do i take the back off to get under the tub to get to the string?

SOURCE: My whirlpool top loader won't agitate.

Ok, sorry it took so long to write.  You listed the washer as a Calypso, but it didnt look righ, so did some investigative work for you.  What your describing I believe, is that the agitator top half (or the auger as well them) is sitting still and the bottom half if moving.  During the wash cycle, the top half is just sitting still.  If this is wrong, please let me know.  If this is right, you have a sort of simple fix.  Remove the top cap of the auger, pry gently between the cap and the agitator, the plastic cap will come off.  When you remove the cap, you will see another cap (sometimes you do, sometimes you dont) it will be white or dirty clear in color if its there.  You can put your finger on the lips and lift it straight off.  Then you will see a cap with a bolt in the center.  Remove this bolt (7/16" with long extension).  the agitator dogs (Sears part #387091) 387091.jpg.  You should see these under that last cap tha had the bolt in it.  Remove the auger (just slide it up and off), remove the dog holding cap.  Remove the dogs, but be sure you remember the way they go back in.  Next is the tricky part.  Take the cap upside-down, and place it back in the auger.  Quickly turn it back over, making sure the ag dogs dont fall out of position (you will be hating me the first couple time, just keep at it), then, with a long pair of needle nose, place the bolt you removed back in the hole.  Take your extension with socket, hold the bolt firmly, and slide the auger back on to the top of the agitator.  Make sure the locks and stuff fit right between the two.  Tighten the bolt (just snug, DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN, you will split the cap).  If all goes well and right, you should be able to roll the auger one way and not the other.  If you need any further help, or need someone to yell at when the dogs keep falling out, give me a shout, and we'll help you along.  Good Luck!!!!!     Jim

Thanks! Removed the fabric softener dispenser, then the plastic cap with the raised plastic strip, inside the post by reaching in and twisting until the o-ring seal becomes free, then removed the bolt using a 7/16" socket with a long extension. Walked in the washer supply store with the whole module that holds the dogs and the man at the counter saw it in my hand, reached under the counter, laid the 4 plastic dogs on the counter without me saying a word and said "that all you need?" think they sell a lot of them? part number fsp-80040. repaired in 40 min.s including the 5 mile trip to the parts store!

SOURCE: old model rca washer machine...will not agitate/wash the clothes, does spin.

If the washer fills up with water and you hear the motor running but the agitator doesn’t move, the agitator coupling is the most likely problem. First pump the water out by turning the timer to spin. Once the water is out, turn the washer off. Now pull up on the agitator until it comes off (it may be hard to pull off). Now that the agitator is off, you can see the agitator coupling, reach down and try to turn the coupling. If the coupling turns freely, it is striped out and needs to be replaced.

I have a Whirlpool LHA 5700 old school washer. It works great. It wash clothes with no problems. It just stop spinning the water out tub and clothes. The water drains as far as it can but that's it. W

Don't know the model but with the old basics with electric motor drive as a 1st step always check for broken wires to the motor as they flop around a fair bit and eventually break them or corrode them from water and washing detergents.

Is this machine a front loader,I bet you have a clogged drain pump.
Try this with no cloths in unit put Draino-Max Gel. Add about 1/3 of bottle and let it stay in washer about 2-3 hrs. now shut door and start machine put on heavy-duty hot-water.this may take a few times, but this well take care of dog hair ,strings and also sanitize machine after. After machine starts to run better, bleach machine every other week.

I have a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II, top loading washer. Upon intial start up the machine agitates. During the spin cycle, the cold water remains ON, throughout the cycle. This is leaving the clothes wet...

The timer is at fault.
During the spin cycle the timer should send intermittent power to the water valve. This activates cold to help rinse soap residue from the laundry.
If cold is continuous it means the timer is not breaking correctly.

Spin mode does not work

Dear "FixYa,"

I have fixed the problem with my washer.

I started clothes washing machine with one load of clothes.
Wash and rinse process completed, as it came to spin,
Machine stop, only I heard was running motor. I opened
machine and found coupler is cracked (broken) and was
unable to rotate the gear.

I replaced new coupler and machine started to work normal.

Thank you

Excess water in clothes after spin cycle

Unblock the outflow pipe from the machine that goes into the sump under the sink. (have a pot ready for water overflow) This will help drain the water. If the spin cycle is making a screetching sort of noise then it is possible that the carbon brushes will need changing. This affects the spinning if the brushes are worn.
