it should have an option for Last known Good Configuration, try pressing F5 and F6 and if it is not giving you option for Last good known configuration repair your operating system by inserting Operating system DVD in you DVD drive. What is your Operating System?

The first thing you would do is remove any new hardware that might have been installed, unplug any external devices like printer, scanner, camera, etc... and then try it.

If that doesn't work, put in that XP CD again and go into the CMOS setup and make sure the Boot Order is set to try that BEFORE the hard drive. With the CD in, when you restart, you should see a message "Press any key to boot from CD...". If you DON'T get that message, change the BIOS.

Once in the XP setup from the CD, go to Recovery Console. Once logged in there, run "CHKDSK /R /F" and see what happens.

If you need help getting that far, just ask away!

    good luck

there is a problem with the account of your son, if you can able to make a system restore then do it. or you can scan the pc it might be third party malware that prevent you to open your son account. or you can make another profile by RIGHT CLICK ON YOUR COMPUTER Click MANAGE and click LOCAL USER AND GROUPS and click USER and right click and click on NEW USER. and restart your computer and do remeber your user name and password.

I got into the system restore in the system tools area, and now I am on it, so I thank you for your help and patience in this matter!!!

When you reboot the machine, keep pressing F8. this should give you a menu to boot into safe mode. when in safe mode you should have an option on the charms bar on the right to refresh your pc which will restore it to previous settings without losing your data.

Hello wayne_64,

Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!

To answer your question, yes, the laptop is fixable.
Running with the idea that you dropped it before this issue started happening, I would be safe saying, you damaged the Hard Drive.
If you take this laptop to a PC Repair store, or have the Recovery DVD, you can buy a replacement PATA/SATA Hard Drive, and restore this unit to functionality again.
I recommened the PC Repair shop because they may be able to connect your old drive to another PC/Mac and retrieve the data off of the old drive for you.

Have a great day!

Are you able to go safe mode? Reboot and when the logo appears, press f8 and select safe mode. If you are able to, you might want to run a antispyware or antivirus software.

Let me know if you are able to access that.

Your PC is looping back to the windows splash screen, you will never get it to bootup like it is supposed to. Your OS is corrupt, you need to reinstall your OS, there is a way to do so provided you have the disks to reinstall the OS. Now if you have data or files you need, when reinstalling you can choose to reinstall the OS keeping all existing data files intact, you must make certain to read closely when you get to this point!
