Question about Audio Players & Recorders

When i turn the system on it turns its self straight back off again. i have all the speaker wires connected right.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.


Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.


You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.


If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.


If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

RX-V665 turns on for a second then turns off


don`t open it yet

check ur speaker wires, try disconnect all wires from back of unit and then try to turn on unit .
if it stays on whit no wires attached than u have short connection at speaker wires .
if doesn`t come on then try to fasten screws at back of the unit ,
may sound like BS but if amp board don`t have good ground connection it can go in protection mode happened to me on RX-V592

When you turn player on: Screen said "Hello" , then "Protection"


Sounds simple... usually "protection" means that a speaker or a speaker wire is shorted out. Or that the volume is just too damned high... how loud is the receiver's volume setting? If the bass tone control is jacked and the loudness button is on, even with no shorted wires, the amp can go into protection from an internal overdrive. Might be that you just need to do like your mom says and turn it down!
If you have an ohmmeter, speaker or wiring problems are easy to test, if you don't, you can still do it all mechanically... here's how
Turn off the receiver and start by disconnecting your speaker wires at the back of the receiver. With all of the speaker wires removed, does the thing still go into protection when you turn it back on?
If not, good. If it does, find a service center.
Re-connect the speakers to the appropriate terminals one speaker at a time, turning off the receiver each time you make a connection. After connecting one speaker, turn the receiver on and see if it shuts down. If not, then turn it off and add one more speaker.
Do this until you find the culprit. Leave that suspected bad speaker's wires disconnected from the receiver and test all the rest, connecting all but the bad wires.
Now, disconnect the speaker from the other end of the bad wires and spread the bare wires apart so they don't short out. Connect the wires ONLY at the amplifier end and turn the amp back on. Protection?
If yes, the wire is shorted out somewhere. got cats?? If everything is OK, turn off the receiver and reconnect the speaker and test again. Make sure the wires aren't shorted at the back of the speaker. You really need to check all the speakers to make sure their connections are "clean" and make sure that there are no stray wire strands anywhere or that the wires aren't stripped too much so they might be able to short out. After the wires are connected to either a speaker or an amplifier, you shouldn't be able top see much of any bare wire, but you already know that, right?
Some folks strip way too much off the wire and the wires simply touch the wrong things and ... badness happens.
If all the connections are clean and the receiver still shuts down when this speaker is connected and the receiver is turned on, swap a working speaker onto these wires, leaving the suspect speaker disconnected and making sure the other bare wires won't touch anything or each other.
Back on with the working speaker... good? If so, then we're determining that the problem is probably in that one speaker. If not, then we have a deeper problem.
Reconnect the suspect speaker to the other wires and try again. Good? Then you have "fixed" the problem by cleaning up the wiring connections. If it shuts down again, then you need to fix or replace the bad speaker.
If everything works now with the volume down and such, then just use a little self control. If it's still messed up, you may need a trip to the service shop

I have a Insignia receiver, connected to it is two rock speakers, when ever I connect the right rock speaker, the receiver turns off

My receiver say's "Protect" or turns on then off. What's wrong? Seven times out of ten it is a shorted speaker or speaker wire. To determine your exact problem, the first step is to disconnect all speaker wires "at your receiver" Next: Turn the receiver back on. If your receiver still says "protect" or turns off, it needs to be serviced. If your receiver stays on; reconnect your speakers one at a time and power back up after each speaker. You may find that after reconnecting all speaker wires it works! Most commonly the small braids of wire from the + to the - have touched and have caused the problem. In some instances, you noticed the problem only when turning the volume up. either way, make sure the exposed wires to your receiver are no longer than 1/2" long and are completely under the screw down terminal or slide in. When you've found the wire or speaker with the problem, your receiver will go back into "protect" At this point, disconnect the wire from the speaker at the speaker that may be causing the problem then test again.* Note* Make sure speaker wires do Not touch each other as this Will cause a short! If you turn the receiver back on and it stays on, you now know the problem is in your speaker itself. To test your speaker, you will need a multimeter. Set it to ohms resistance and touch the speaker terminals, if there is a short internally the meter will read "1......" If it's an analog meter, it will peg to the right. There's your problem. Now, within any speaker there are quite a few possibilities as to what could be causing the problem. Most common is a blown coil and the speaker needs to be replaced. Some speakers have internal crossovers (usually floor standing speakers) and may have a shorted or burnt board (usually very visible brown burn marks on the board) and can possibly be repaired if your handy with a soldering iron. Now, if you disconnect the speaker wire at the speaker and it still says "protect" Check your wire for the obvious cut or nail thru the wire if possible. If your system has wiring that runs behind walls, you may need to use your meter again. Disconnect the wire at both ends, keep the ends separated, put your meter on ohms resistance and touch probes to the + and - wires at one side. If the meter pegs to the right or reads "1...." the wire is shorted and needs to be replaced or repaired at the short. Hope this helps.

How do I connect external speakers


    Connecting Full-Size Speakers
  1. Step 1 Insert the red and white plugs on a set of RCA audio cables into the right and left audio "OUT" jacks on the back of the TV.
  2. Step 2 Connect the other ends of the cables to a free pair of audio "IN" jacks on the amplifier.
  3. Step 3 Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from the speaker wires, and connect a pair of wires to the left and right terminals on the back of each speaker using the red wire for the right audio connection and the other wire for the left.
  4. Step 4 Connect the other ends of the speaker wires to a pair of stereo speaker terminals on the back of the amplifier. The wires attach by raising spring-loaded clips on the back of the amp to reveal a hole for inserting each wire.
  5. Step 5 Set the amplifier selector to the set of audio jacks connected to the TV to enjoy stereo sound from the television.
  6. Connecting Self-Powered Speakers
  7. Step 1 Insert the RCA plugs on the Y adapter into the TV's Audio "OUT" jacks.
  8. Step 2 Connect the mini-plug on the wire attached to the right-hand self-powered speaker to the mini-plug jack on the Y adapter.
  9. Step 3 Plug in the audio cable and mini-plug from the left-hand speaker into the Audio "OUT" jack on the back of the right-hand speaker.
  10. Step 4 Connect the AC adapter to the power jack on the back of the right-hand speaker, then plug the adapter into an electrical outlet.

Look at inside at capacitor and fuse but they seem ok. again once i turn it on, it would automatically shuts off after a second.


When a system shuts down after a few seconds it is the self protect circuit shutting down power to the outputs to prevent (further) damage. It may be caused by frayed speaker wires, bad speaker voice coils, or blown output transistors. First, turn off power and remove all speaker wires from the receiver. Turn it back on and see if the problem remains. If it works OK, inspect each speaker wire at both ends for loose strands and correct these. Then, hook up your speakers one at a time until the problem reappears. That speaker or its' wiring is your problem. For safety's sake. turn the receiver off before connecting each speaker. An accidental short of the output terminals can be disastrous (and expensive).

Sony HCD DX150: when we put the volume up past 29 the system shuts down and we have to unplug then plug in again to restart it.


Hello: You have a bad speaker on the system. Try disconnecting one speaker one at a time while turning the vol past 29. Until you discover when it stays on pass this point. Example you know it shuts down after 29, so start with the front right speaker disconnect it and turn vol pass 29 to see it it cuts off is so then the bad speaker is still connected to system, do this for all speakers until it does'nt turn off, when it does turn off you have removed the bad one. This is just to make sure its a speaker causing shut down, and not the amplifier it self...

To Operate with AC Adapter
  1. Open battery compartment located at the back of both speakers and remove wires.
  2. Replace battery covers.
  3. Connect DUAL PLUG CONNECTOR on left speaker to right speaker at connection marked "TO LEFT SPEAKER."
  4. Connect remaining wire with 3.5mm plug to headphone jack on your audio source.
  5. Connect AC adapter (not included) to back of left speaker at connector marked "DC 6V." Plug remaining end of AC adapter into wall outlet. Be sure your AC adapter is built with the center pin as ("-") negative. Connect remaining wire with 3.5mm plug to the headphone jack on your audio source.
  6. Turn ON/OFF switch at back of right speaker to "ON."
  7. Set "INPUT SELECTOR" switch to audio source.
  8. Turn on audio source
  9. Adjust sound in the following ways: Turn volume control to desired level; push Bass Boost button located on right speaker to "ON" for added bass; push Treble Boost button on right speaker to "ON" for added treble
  10. Operating a microphone through your speakers require an additional 3.5mm plug to 3.5mm plug cable (included). Connect cable with 3.5mm straight plug to right speaker at input marked "MIC" on back of speaker. Plug the remaining 3.5mm L--plug into the mic input on audio source. Connect your microphone to the front of your speakers at "MIC" input (microphone not included)

Won't power up


  • Make sure all connections on the rear of Subwoofer are properly inserted in their connectors.
  • Check to see if LED illuminates on the front of right satellite speaker. If it is not illuminated, check the power connections.
  • Make sure power switch on satellite is turned on.
