Question about Taco 1/2" 006 BC4-TAC Circulator Pump/ Timer /Aquastat

1 Answer

I cannot figure out why my hot water no longer gets hot. I unplugged my timer 3 years ago and never had a problem. Now, no hot water unless timer is on and circulating.

Best solution is to remove the circulation-system crossover located under sink and see if problem is solved.
After removing crossover piece, try hot water tap.
Another way to check if this is the problem: Turn off cold water shut-off located above water heater. No need to turn off power or gas to water heater. Now, no water should flow when you turn on hot water tap because hot is turned off.
Open hot water side of double handled faucet. If water still comes out the hot side, then crossover is the problem.

After removing Taco crossover, you can still have the problem if a single handled faucet has the same type of crossover issue.
Repeat test to see if water comes out of hot side when water to water heater is shut off.
If water still comes out of hot side, then put ear against each single handled faucet and see which one has sound of moving water. That will narrow down the suspects.

Look inside freezer on the rear wall to look to see if there is frost buildup. If yes then unplug and manually defrost defrost for about 3 hours if you only open freezer or place hot water in a bucket and place inside freezer and close the door. Did you reset the timer for the filter? This could cause the unit to not respond correctly. The filter timer is automatically set for 6 months intervals, but depending on your actual water consumption, you could actually go longer before changing it.

Hot water intermitten and also burning smell coming from Intermatic T103 Timer

Jan 2013. Yes very experienced. Multiple issues. Bad thermostat. Burned contacts on timer.
Let's break it down.

1) Water heater tripped:
29th the electric water heater reset button was tripped because ECO detected high heat from very-hot-water, or nearby burned wire, or loose wire, or bad thermostat.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-electric-problems-with-water-heater.html

2) Description of water heater:
40 gallon Rudd (Rheem), 2 thermostats and 2 elements indicates ordinary 240Volt water heater.
More information shows on label on side of tank, including valtage rating (208-240), and element wattage (usually 4500 watts).
Rheem-Ruud serial number, 3rd and 4th digit are year of manufacture.

3) Solution for water heater:
Tripping ECO reset button, Very hot water, and sometimes not-so-very-hot ... sounds like bad thermostat, and/or bad element. Replace both thermostats, and see if problem persists. Then replace elements if needed.

4) Information about timer:
Water heater circuit has 40 amp T103-Timer, which is plenty heavy for ordinary 240Volt household water heater that draws 19-22 amps.
T103 timer has repair parts, and can usually be repaired unless overheated contacts caused melting, but that can also be worked around in some circumstances, or the internal mechanism replaced by buying T103M mechanism-only and snapping into existing box.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T103
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-Intermatic-timers.html

5) Solution for timer:
Attach photo of inside of T103 timer, and I can assess what steps will most likely fix the timer.
Maybe the timer is not connected to water heater.

1) EH40 uses size A battery. Replace battery.

2) Reset the timer: Press and hold reset button for several seconds
3) Contact Intermatic because they are aware of specific problems with specific timers
http://www.intermatic.com/customer%20service.aspx
4) Other folk have reported EH40 and EH10 last about 3 years.
EH40 has 1 year limited warranty.
I test timers: 7 years is reasonable run for inexpensive electronic time switch.
5) For longer lasting timer, consider Next Generation: battery is replaced every 8 years

WH40 water heater timer: Does black wire from service box go to terminal #1 and black wire to water heater to terminal #2? Does neutral (white) from service box go to terminal #3 and neutral (white) to...

WH40 is 240Volt timer.
WH40 will not work with 120V circuit.

See WH40 wiring illustration at following link:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-EH40-hot-water-heater-timer.html

There are two hot wires in 240V circuit because every circuit requires two wires to complete the circuit.
Hot wires from breaker connect to terminal 1 and 3.
Notice that small white wires are also connected to terminals 1 and 3.
Small white wires power clock motor located on back of mechanism, so this says power from breaker box must arrive on terminals 1 and 3. This insures that clock motor runs continuously.
If clock motor only runs when manual override switch is clicked ON, then your Hot and Load wires are reversed.

Bare ground wire connects to green ground screw.
Wires going to Load (water heater) connect to terminals 2 and 4.

FYI: Terminal A is not used unless circuit also has a Neutral wire,
See basic water heater circuit Diagram #2:
http://waterheatertimer.org/240-v-water-heater-circuit.html

Terminal A is also used if you want to convert WH40 to 120V timer by replacing 240V clock with 120V clock.

You are not supposed to move the time arrow.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Paragon-timers-and-manuals.html

4000 series time arrow is pointed at 8:00.
geno_3245_97.jpg
To set current time, lift and rotate dial clockwise until current time lines up with pointer.
Put X2772 trippers on dial at times you want water heater to turn on.
Minimum on-off with Paragon 4000 is 1-1/2 hours because trippers are so fat.
You can replace 4000 timer with electronic timer and control exact on-off down to the minute:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Boxtype.html

Electric water heater heats about 21 gallons of water per hour.
Shower uses 6-9 gallons hot water.
Bath uses 10-12 gallons hot water.
Average water heater that is not connected to timer, runs about 3 hours a day. You can make timer pay off by keeping time schedule lower than 3 hours.

I have a GE washer that is about 5 years old. It started leaking water from the front a couple weeks ago. I tried to see where it was leaking from but I dont know how to take it apart. Other than that it...

To take the front panel off you need a putty knife to push in about 3 inches on each side under the top lid in front, pull out on the top of the front panel towards you while doing this........

The pump is in the front right, it drains the water by the timer before the main motor starts to spin the clothes(also by the timer)

It is probably starting and stopping because it is trying to spin the water with the clothes, too much weight, motor kicks out on overload.(the water is maybe coming from the overflow tube-back left)

Check for a hose restriction in the drain hose, watch the water coming out into your standpipe and make sure it is full flow

Also check the hose from the pressure dome at the outside of the tub on the left side of the tub as your looking at it . Not going to go into the details, but if it looks gunked you might want to put on a new one while your working on your washer
