Chokes and Dies when cutting

Adjust the choke or carburetor. In case your chainsaw stalls when the engine is idling, ensure that the choke is set properly. To do so, first try releasing it to adjust it, and then move the plate and tighten all screws once again. To loosen any grit, spray carburetor cleaner spray on the choke's shaft. The carburetor may also need to be adjusted; consult your owner's manual which will guide you on resetting the idle mix screw.

Chainsaw problems

You are running it too lean and running too hard. doubt if it will last anytime at all before the piston freezes up. Dont forget to mix oil with the gas at the proper mixture, take to the saw shop and have them adjust it as I see you don't have it adjusted properly. The high and low jets need adjusting. Turn the high speed jet counterclockwise until it starts to cackle when it is running at top speed. Then when idling give it full throttle for an instant. Does it instantly have power or does it go blah. If it goes blah and does not engage quickly with power then turn the low speed jet on the carburetor to the left as you keep trying this. Only turn it a fraction at a time like say 1/8 of a turn at a time then try it again. Once you have full power when you engage the throttle, I mean it has to be instant then turn the low speed 1/8 turn more. Recheck the high speed jet by giving throttle for full speed. Do not let it scream, you must adjust the high speed jet til it starts to cackle. That way it stays in control and will not scream unless you are in wood cutting under a load. By the way the low speed jet should also be adjusted to give you more power when you are cutting as you first hit the throttle and not bog down. Do not get confused with the chain stopping and hung up so it wont turn, I am talking about the engine and it powering the chain when it is free to move in the wood when cutting. Anyhow don't run your saw to the point of a red muffler. If you want to use your saw again. It's not good!

42cc 18 inch craftsman chainsaw model 358-351910-18. Saw runs great at idle or while not cutting wood, when starting to cut wood just after the entire bar gets into the wood engine bogs down and chain...

Generally this is a fuel / air ratio problem. Usually it can be solved by a carb adjustment. On the carb there are usually two screws, one marked low or L , the other marked high or H. Low is your adjustment for idle mixture, high is for mixture at full throttle. The saw should Always be adjusted to run well during the cut. Make adjustments a little at a time, then try The saw. Continue small adjustments untill the saw is performing well at full throttle while Cutting.

Throttle Adjustment Hi/Lo idle Calibration

it could be the air to fule mix wrong but if it runs ok i would take a good look at the chain teeth if there even a little bit blunt take a file to the chain and tuch them up,,,,a blunt chain is very power sucking,,pluss you need to pull the chain through the wood,, a sharp chain dont need to be pulled it will cut well just under its own whaite

Idle seems too low. runs great, when no throttle, stalls. maybe idle too low. no manual, need to know where idle adjustment screw is

If you haven't already adjusted the carb there are usually 3 adjustments. H - adusts performance at full throttle (how it cuts in the wood). L - adjusts performance at idle and accelleration to full throttle. It sounds as though those are fine. The third adjustment T - is the throttle or idle speed (often away from the other 2). If my saw that is the one adjustment I'd make. You supplied no make or model, it is difficult to provide what you requested without them. HTH

Only runs on full throttle

Are you saying full throttle, or full choke? if full throttle, you should be able to set the idle up. the idle screw will be the one when you give it gas, it will be the screw on you'r throttle linkage. If full choke, maybe the spark arrestor is plugged. You can remove it by removing the muffler. It would be between the muffler and cylinder head. You don't need this to run.I hope any thing I posted will help.

Loses power when trying to cut wood

Check the muffler screens first. Then the spark plug. If not the case, then adjust the High setting on your carb. Prolly starving for fuel under engine load. If it is still a problem, Pull the carb and clean it.
