I have a hp pavilion pc that I just put a new hard drive in, can't seem to recoverery disk to work, it telling me no boot file name received, what does mean? Or what do I need to do?

I'm not sure what your exact model is, but the first thing I would check regardless is the boot sequence.

  • F1 or F10 to acces the BIOS Select
  • System boot configuration
  • Boot options
  • Make sure the boot order is set to start with our disk drive
  • F1 or F10 to save any changes made (there is a list of what each key does, usually on the very top of the screen)
  • Follow on screen shortcuts for exiting without saving if the settings are correct.
  • Re-boot

Hope this helps!

Hello I have a HP Pavilion a1320N it is running very slow, so I want to do a full recovery back to the original state, but I did not create a set up disks when I bought it. How can I do a full recovery?

Use an external hard drive to backup your files and do the recovery... or better use the System Restore utility to at least restore it to an old backup date.

I formatted my computer with MaxBlast 4.0 and then I put the system restore cd and it does not take it yet have the original recovery cd the computer my computer is a Pavilion Media Center A1320N

Hi ylemire
If you have formatted your HD , there is nothing left on it and the system restore cd will be of no help .
You need to reinstall Windows with the install disc .

Check my guide created for such an ocasion, it is entitled My Computer is not turning on!!! Is it dead!!! No POST!!!

Seems like you may have a slightly loose connection, that is between the mainboard and the solder of those 20pins on the mainboad.

Try pushing it in tight, it should clip in, as there is a clip on the one side on the 20pinblock. Then once it is clipped in pull it slightly, without releasing the clip.

This will ensure that the 20pins will make contact with the mainboard.

The other solution to this problem is to check the solder points of these 20pins.
Another is that the mainboard may be damaged, therefore needing replacing.

Take care!

Hi :) Did you remove the drivers for the old video card before you installed the new card? and if not you need to make sure if you have onboard video that it is shut off in the Bios and plus the F3 button just after post and pick VGA MODE before going in to windows.

Hi,

According to the specs of your motherboard it supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards.

See HP Pavilion a1320n Support

You can get a start by going to Tiger Direct and looking at their video card selections.

Here's a link: Tiger Direct PCI Express Cards

You can get several different memory amounts on the cards. I would probably stay with a minimum of 512MB.

You need to watch the connections. If you use a VGA connector to your monitor, make sure the video card has one. Some only have HDMI or dual HDMI.

Of course you can always find them at most Big Box stores such as Staples, etc.

Ask questions. Make sure what you buy is compatible. Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Fixya.

NOTE: Keep in mind that smooth video is interdependent on RAM, CPU speed AND video card.
