The Sansa sometimes corrupts files. It seems to be a persistent firmware bug.Put the Sansa in MSC mode.

Connect it to your computer then follow this:

In My Computer, see what the driveletter is E:Sansa 250.
Start/Run and type in chkdsk E:/f (or whatever the driveletter is). Windows will check the disk, fix bad files by deleting them and ask if you want to keep copies of the bad files. You don't need to and this may help on your problem but if still the same try to update the firmware of this player.

Hope that helps........

Hi,

Initially, it would seem that your Sansa e250 has somehow messed its firmware hence, the menu will not come on when powered up. The hardware part of the unit is still basically sound as evidenced by the computer being able to read it as a removable disk.

The Sandisk site offers downloadable utilities to restore the firmware, repair and for most other maintenance purposes.

For failing to load the menu or freezing on the Welcome screen, pls click here;

For a Sansa Firmware Updater, pls click here;

For all other, pls try here or here.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

I'm not familiar w/ the Sansa but I'll give it a try.
The SanDisk Sansa e200 is an MTP device but can be switched into UMS mode, meaning it can be used as a hard drive, which is a good thing for Mac users and those who prefer to drag and drop tracks. The only caveat here is that the expansion slot will not work when the unit is in MTP mode.

Hope this was of help.

Sansa M230 won't turn on and not recogonized.....

Hi. Try these 3 procedures and see if it will revive the player. There may have been some system corruption that occurred during the firmware update process. Procedure 1: First, remove the battery. Then press and hold the "Menu" button for 30 seconds. This would cause the excess static electricity to be discharged from the player. Insert a fresh battery and try to power it on. If it still doesn't power on, try the procedure again, but this time, press and hold the "Menu" button for 1 minute. Insert a fresh battery again and see if it would work. Procedure 2: If the first procedure fails, then try to manually set the player to MSC mode by enabling the "Hold" switch on the side of the player. You'll know the "Hold" switch is enabled when you see the orangey-colored surface (don't know how to best describe it lol). Plug your player in your computer and your Operating system should recognize it as a "Removable Disk" and it will have a drive letter. Right click on the M230 drive letter and select "Format". When the Format window appears, just make sure to set the File System type to "FAT" and make sure that the "Quick Format" option on the bottom section of the window remains un-checked. Click start to format the player. Follow the on-screen prompts. Procedure 3: You can also use the Sansa Updater application to once again update your player's firmware. Use this link from the SanDisk website to download the Sansa Firmware updater: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1376 This page contains instructions on how to use the application. I hope this helps. I've had a similar bout with my M240 last year and the procedures above solved it. It'll certainly test your patience (lol), but I'm hoping for the best for your player. Syd :)
