Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

Hi I have a used Phillips DPTV335. Was working fine until yesterday. Now when I power it on it clicks like it is trying to start up but then there is no audio or video. Only a high pitched chirp every second or so continuously. I do not see any tubes lighting up inside but the power button is illuminated. Any ideas?

I have some skill for trouble shooting but wonder is it worth the effort to repair? How difficult is replacement of any of these parts?

The high-pitched chrip that you have means you have a malfunctioning flyback transformer. I have seen this many times before. The part cannot be repaired and replacement is the only option. It costs about 50-75$ and should be handled only by a qualified technician as it is located in an extreme high voltage circuit - 30,000V. If you would like me to get you a list of techs in your area just let me know your zipcode.

Hi rkrauss624,
High pitch noise is coming from the shorted parts in the power supply section or its load. This was commonly caused by shorted secondary voltage regulator transistor/IC(mounted in the heat sink) or the load. You must check each output voltages to locate where the fault came from to narrow the job. You need also a copy of service manual if you are going to fix it yourself. If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't troubleshoot the symptom yourself I would advice you to look for an experienced technician to isolate the problem.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Sounds like your fluid in the CRT's need replaced. I would recommend a servicer take care of that problem. The corrosion that ethylene glycol can do to components is vast if you spill it on any of the PC boards. ( You know it as Anti-freeze ). Play it safe---Make a Call.!

Can not start my computer

Plug the unit directly to the ac outlet if it is plug into a surge protector. See if it boots. Did you shut it down yesterday or was it left running? Any bad weather last night? You could try another computer memory and see it is the memory. Not sure what it could be at this point. What type of system is it?
It could possibly be a bad power supply.

I hope this helps.

No picture on the screen

Hi,

I have this Panasonic PanaSync SL70 17'' monitor, I don't use it often. It is still in very great shape. However, I tried to turn it on yesterday, I got a black screen. The power LED is on and I can hear the relay is clicking when signal received. I tried to remove the signal cable, I can see it turns to power saving mode. It seems that everything works fine except no picture. I am if the transformer is gone, but not sure. I am wondering if you can help?
