Any ideas? i've installed a new bestec power supply to a emachines 2260 but when i powered on the pc only turns on the mother board but not the HDD what that happens if everything is connected correctly?

One of the reasons that this could be is that the power supply doesn't have enough power to power everything. Trying exchanging it for another one that has more watts. If this is an exact replacement as far as the wattage goes, then your problem may lie else where, and you may want to take it to a reputable local computer repair shop for further inspection.

Got a machine but it keeps switching off after few minutes could it be power switch on front if so where can i get one

It isnt the power switch, it's the power supply itself. You need to get a new one from bestbuy.com, Tigerdirect.com or Geeks.com.

Emachines are notorious for their bad power supplies, and they usually burn out the motherboard when they die. Stop pushing that button and get a new Power supply before your board messes up.

Comp. does'nt turn on. power is good

Your question fails to provide sufficient information.

.."doesn;t turn on power good...."
do any lights on the pc illuminate
was it working before, and did it close down correctly
has it possibly been hit by lightning
have you recently opened the case to install new hardware?

Possible causes of a failed power up.
dead power supply
a video card not seated in its slot correctly
dud motherboard
motherboard installed incorrectly
no Bios battery on motherboard
faulty wall switch
faulty power pack switch
no ram installed

and on and on

Recently I switched from an XP operating system to a Vista. My new PC is an emachine. I am having trouble installing on new emachine. Perhaps the new connections are slightly different? I emachines didn't...

I have just bee to Driverguide and the Vista driver is not there. I have requested it for information purposes, but you should request it yourself, to be sure. If it turns up, I will check to see you have it. Ian.

Emachine D2880 no power clarification

your getting power to your PSU, via the green light on your mobo.
verify the PSU has a green light(most emachines do)
it sort of sounds stupid but, check the connection of the cable coming from the front of the case(the wires that connect to the mobo to the power button on the outside of the case.

if all else fails, take the pc out of the case.. put all components on a static free bag and start to rebuild your PC(without a case)
...this will rule out a short on the PC case, and faulty wiring from the case...

pretty much sounds like you've been through almost every step except replacing the PSU(you just said you tested/but your getting power to the PSU)

hope some of this helped

T2085 will not turn on

it does sound like a power supply. you can pick one up for around 80 bucks retail. they aren't that hard to install. 2 plugs on the mobo and one for each drive you have installed. all you do is unscrew the current power supply (4 screws on the back), then unplug all wires connecting the power supply to the components. then take out the old power supply and work in reverse with the new power supply.
if the computer doesn't work after that, it is possible that you need a new mother board. in that case, personally i would return the power supply and start looking for another computer.
but hopefully it is just the power supply.

New power supply problem

try to run it with out the memory and see if you have the right kind, put one stick in and try that, if still does not work, then you must have a short on the motherboard. I would replace that. most of the time the power box goes out it shorts the motherboard out too. if a green light is on, the power box is good and the motherboard is out. Farren
