SOURCE: E-wave KOT-152UB glass tray and turning ring melted

Sounds like some metal is involved somehow. If the unit otherwise works, replace the damaged parts. Test with a cup filled with water.

Inside the door is plastic covering a metal mesh but the plastic seems to be melting slowly. should I remove the plastic and is it ok for the metal to be uncovered

The screen in the door prevents microwaves from being emitted through the window, so don't remove it. If you feel it is faulty, take it to a service tech, as the door must be in good condition.

Hello Robert, I am happy to assist you. Let's try resetting the microwave by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker to the off position. It is important to wait approximately ten minutes and then turn the unit on. If the issue persists, then based on the symptoms you are describing, it could possibly a faulty fuse or the main control board. If the instructions above do not solve the problem, I am fairly confident that an authorized service agent will be able to restore your appliance to its normal operating condition. You can often locate a qualified service technician on the manufacturer website.

The turntable stopped turning and when I press start, nothing happenes. The clock still works and the light comes on when opened but, nothing else.

Hello,

Check the turntable guide to make sure it is lined up properly and that there is no debris caught in it. You may need to re-align or clean your turntable guide.

Cleaning and realigning a turntable guide;

Remove your glass turntable cooking tray from your microwave. Gently wash with warm soapy water to remove any debris. Next remove the turntable guide and clean it in the same manner, with warm soapy water. Pay particular attention to the turntable rollers. There could be spilled food particles caught in the rollers, hindering the rollers' movement. Also, gently cleanse the internal cavity of your microwave, paying special attention to the area below the turntable.

With the internal cavity, turntable, and turntable guide completely clean and dry, return the parts to your microwave. First place the turntable guide on the bottom of the microwave. There should be a circular groove in the bottom of the microwave cavity keeping the turntable guide in place. Follow the guide with the turntable cooking tray. Carefully place the glass tray over the turntable guide and onto the drive bushing. The drive bushing should fit neatly into the grooves on the bottom of your glass cooking tray. It may take some adjusting before the tray will sit properly onto the drive bushing.

Test your microwave after this thorough cleaning and realigning in order to determine whether this has solved your problem. DO NOT run your microwave with nothing in it.

CAUTION: Your microwave oven is capable of giving you a serious electrical shock, even when it is unplugged. We strongly suggest you seek the assistance of an appliance repair technician when conducting any microwave oven repair.

Also, Examine the plastic drive bushing the turntable tray sits on. It may have become worn, or even may have split in two;

Drive bushing replacement

Inspect the plastic drive bushing located below your microwave oven's turntable tray. There may be some debris blocking the tray's range of motion. Clean away any blockage you find, and then test your microwave to see if this has cleared up the problem. DO NOT run your microwave with nothing in it.

However, if upon your inspection, you notice that the plastic drive bushing below the turntable tray is worn and/or broken, you will need to have the bushing replaced. Consult with a certified and experienced appliance repair technician. Replacing a drive bushing is a lengthy and involved process that the average layman should not perform.

Regards.

It burns thru the glass trray and melts the wheeled tray holder...

There are two possible reasons for this to occur.
1.there was dirt on the turntable and that carbonized and got so hot that it melted the tray. That heat would've melted the plastic spider as well.
2.the microwave oven was turned on with nothing. or almost nothing, in it: the glass turntable is what is known as "a matching load". That means it is there as a safety precaution, protecting the magnetron, in case there's nothing in the microwave oven when it is energized. As such, the glass turntable can get hot enough to melt. That, in turn, will melt the plastic spider.
If either of those is the case, it is OK to buy a new spider & turntable.

I have the same model, same age, same problem. It appears to be the seal between the metal heating coils, and the plastic switch that selects steam or coffee. Possibly caused by no cleaning the injector hole with the tool provided with machine (which causes a lot of back pressure). On mine, the screw that holds the switch to the heater has corroded and can not be unscrewed, so not possible to access rubber seal, and repair. May be tricky since this is plastic sealed to hot metal with a rubber gasket. So fo now, i unscrewed the black base plate on the bootom, and set the Alessi in a tray. THen just wipe up water after use.

It sounds like you are talking about the turntable tray adapter in the bottom.
What usually causes arcing is the reaction of the RF (microwave) energy acting on carbon. It's great that the motor and orifice are OK. Sounds like you just need to replace the T/T adapter. If the paint is pitted or altered, you need to use a special catalytic paint for microwave cavities to touch it up. The paint's main purpose is to protect the metal from rust but it is a high temperature paint to stand up to the higher temperature of that environment.

I'm not familiar with the particular model, but having had a look at the Kitchen Aid website, it would appear that the KMCS1555 series are countertop models, and all appear to have the oven controls on the right-hand side. Is this how your is?

If this is the case, then that is where I would expect to find the magnetron. It is unlikely to be on the other side as the housing does not appear to be big enough to accomodate it.

As for it being under a panel, that is exactly where I would expect to find it. The microwaves cannnot pass through the metal of the oven compartment, so through the plastic panel is the way they get in.

This is what a typical magnetron in a domestic oven looks like:

(Although yours might look different, the clues are the cooling fins and the high-voltage connection)

You might want to have a look inside yourself and see if this is what is behind the panel.

Pin hole in back wall from metal carousel hitting wall while oven on

You can buy stainless steel tape from many hardware stores, just make sure that you put the tape on the outside (be very careful when opening the oven up). Put enough layers on to match the thickness of the metal originally - unfortunately the tape tends not to stay on for that long, so is potentially a dangerous option the best thing to do would be take it to a microwave repair shop - they will have metal sheet available of the appropriate type and should be able to patch it for you - if you get really lucky they might have the same model that has an undamaged chassis but destroyed electrical workings - is worth a try. Good luck Hope this helps - please post again if you need more info :)
