My Whirlpool microwave randomly makes a growling noise (with vibration) when not in use. It seems to be coming from the top above the fan area. Something going out?

sometimes a bad relay on the main timer board will tell the unit to heat with nothing in it and it will arc in the wave guide or antenna area. Arcing sounds like growling or grumbling. "Random" may be from the relay sticking sometimes and then sometimes not. Will destroy the wave guide and the magnetron and the unit could not be repaired. Would have to be replaced if that happens

Hi, I have a amana fridge with freezer on the bottom. It has an ice maker and water dispenser. The big problem is a buzzing noise comming from the fridge, it start aprox every 16 min and buzzes for 10...

The buzzing you hear is the water valve trying to run water to the icemaker. If there is no water going to the icemaker it will be going into cycles one after another. And when it does it adds heat into the freezer. Turn the ice maker off and see if the freezer gets colder.

Controls work, microwave does not cook ,turntable not turning

One thing worth checking is the doors safety switch as sometimes they become misaligned and although the buttons and the display works the oven will not.

Please remember that electrical appliances can be very dangerous to work on and you should really have them repaired by a professional as they can cause serious harm and or death.

Microwaves have hi voltage capacitors that can store electricity for hours, days and weeks so just because they are not plugged in doesn't mean they are safe.

A repair person would remove the ovens case and and locate the door safety switch which will be where the 2 prongs from the door enter the oven body.

They would then realign the switch to make sure it is being engaged when the door closes.

The switch can be bypassed but this is not a good idea as the oven will operate even when the door is open which is a really bad idea.

Hope this helps,

Best regards,

Not making ice. water is getting to the water dispenser but don't know why it is not getting to the ice maker itself. how do i check it/repair it.

Hia and wl;ecome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
We really need a make and model number to provide you with specific unit applicable information but.... in general, here goes:
1. Ice makers must have a freezer temp below 16 Deg F. If there is an airflow problem in the freezer caused by a fan or ice build up the ice maker will no longer make ice.
2. The ice maker has a thermostat that controls the harvest and fill cycle. If the thermostat fails it will stop making ice.
3. There is a water valve in the back of the unit that has TWO electric solenoids on it. One for water in door and one for ice. If a solenoid fails it will stop providing water to the applicable function. I.e water in door or ice. You can briefly remove the fiberboard back cover to gain access to the water valve. Then switch the installed terminal connection between solenoids. Left to right or front to back depending on how it is mounted. Then try the water in door. If water flows to the ice maker when water in door switch is actuated then the solenoid for making ice is good and the probem is with the icemaker. (Reconect wires in original positions.)

Note that anytime you remove power from the unit you must wait 10 - 15 mintues before re-applying power so the coolant system can stabilze. Other wise the compressor will not start.

Here is a web link that will help most people troubleshoot ice maker problems:

The link above is pretty good.
There is a 48 page job aid also for whirlpool in door ice that is also a big help:$FILE/4322658A.pdf

This should help you find out why it is not making ice.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Here we go, I have a GE side by side about 6 years old... Started with the icemaker not dispensing ice consistently... then the ice stopped all together (even though the bin was full and not froze solid)....

The clicking you are hearing is the relay unit. Now it is for sure that the compressor is not working as the relay keep s tripping off.
So first of all to clear this doubt, let us checck the relay unit which is clicking. remove and check. most of the time the relays need to be replaced as a poor contact will not deliver good voltage to the compressor and it will shut off. So check this out.
One the compressor works and you notice there is cooling the sytem seems ok except that you must check if the thermostat, the auto defrost cut off timer works.
If after the compressor works the cooling is not good then you can decide on a replacement than to spend for expensive repairs

The microwave runs but does not heat the food. Unit was bought sometime in 2004 or 2005. (When I press the MICRO control pad, a number 16 with underscore colored red appears near the upper left hand of...

Whirlpool typically supplies a service sheet with schematics for servicing the oven. This is normally located in the compartment where the micro control board is and requires you to removes it to acess it. These service sheets have fault codes and causes on them.

If you are inexperienced at working with electronics I suggest replacing the unit as the cost to have the unit serviced will likely exceed the cost of a new unit.

Good Luck

I have a 6150 it does nothing like the breaker is off

Probably a blown fuse. Disconnect, remove cover and replace the fuse with the exact same unit. Try unit. If the fuse blows again you probably need a new HV diode. About $5 at . Simple to replace and straightforward if you have some mechanical/electrical ability. Certainly for the cost it is worth a try. Let me know how you make out.

My Microwave is displaying F6 and running when plugged in.

I found a sheet that says to check wiring to main or microwave relay for shorts. If no shorts found, replace control board.

Nothing working - just quit. Power source ok.

There are 3 fuses in that microwave. I had a similar issue. The one that I had to replace was the little ceramic fuse that is in line after the big fuse which is connected to the main line.
I couldn't find the ceramic fuse but I replaced it was a glass one about a year ago and it has been working since then. The fuse if located on the right front panel.
