Yes it was the Washing machine. I don't know why kitchen range came up. Is the bearing replaceable? Is it easy to get at? Thanks

easiest way to test for bearing is..............

open door grab drum edges left and right..............pull and push sideways then top and bottom.......pull and push.

like you would to test a car wheel bearing......

if any play then bearing is goosed............depending on machine make and model some are easy..........some are harder.........there shud be some vids to watch on youtube...........just type in machine make and put "bearing replacement"...........
might be lucky to see how its done......

I assume you mean it sounds like a jet plane when it spins, if so, I suspect a bad tub bearing. Depending on age of the machine, probably too expensive to repair.

Machine sounds like it will self distruct when spin cycle begins and seems to try to spin too early in wash cycle

If it is trying to go into a spin during the wash cycle when there is water in it then it sounds like your motor is faulty. The motor has what is called a tachometer in it which regulates the spin speed but if it goes faulty it causes the motor to spin up when it is not meant to. Hope this helps.

I have a Kenmore model 42182 top loading washing machine which makes a roaring sound during the spin cycle. It works all actions during the wash portion so I don't think it is the transmission. I am asking...

your model should begin with a c110 or just 110. it sounds like you have a mounting stem and bearing problem. this can get alot worse as time goes on and is a somewhat costly repair. it involves taking out the entrie tub and replacing the critical center bearing and seal. you can check for fine particles of rubber at the base of the transmission as it has been ground down from the spining cycle of your machine.

Loud noise during spin cycle.

If it sounds like a jet engine and gets louder the faster it spins you have bad bearings and that wont hurt anything. If your using pwder soap that is what made the bearings go out so switch to liquid and it shouldnt get much worse.

YEA!!!!!! thats a bad rear bearing, depending on age, id call a local authorized maytag servicer and see what they get to repalce it for you, perhaps you still have a part warr on certain parts, otherwise irts not worth the cost of repair

Noise during wash and rinse cycles

Got a response from another site - the noise was due to the recirculation pump (situated low down at the back on the other side from the drain hose) which was working, but clogged with a nasty grey 'porridge' of limescale and powder residue in the pipes either side of it. Dismantled, cleaned out pipes and ran a wash cycle to clear any remaining crud out. Seems ok now and wash jet working, noise gone.
