Whirlpool ED2FHGX Side by Side Refrigerator Logo
Anonymous Posted on Mar 26, 2011

I have a Whirlpool refrigerator model ED2SHAXMB10 with water and ice in the freezer door. It is about 6 years old and has worked fine until recently the water flow has become slow. It starts out fast for less than a second and then slows considerably. I thought it might be the filter, but a new one made no difference. I read that it was probably the water inlet valve so I ordered a new one and installed it, but the condition didn't change a bit. The ice maker works fine. I have always been connected to city water. Your help would be appreciated.

There is most likely a crimp in the line or some other blockage.
Remove the toe kick plate across the bottom front of the refrigerator.
You will see the water line to the door. The pkastic line is about 3/8 inch in size.
There is a plastic coupling that needs to be disconnected.
Have a glass handy and have someone push the water button while you catch the water.
If you get a good stream of water under the refrigerator, the restriction is in the door tubing.
If you do not get good flow, the water valve could be disconnected in the rear and run the water button again.
Ifr you then get good flow the restriction is in the tubing inside the fresh food side.
If you get poor flow at the valve, the valve is bad.

The start device on some models of refridgerator for maytag and whirlpool have been recalled. If your appliance was manufactured in the last 5-10 years you may be having an issue with this component. Our fridge is a little over 6 years old and everything has worked fine until now. Earlier in the day I was able to fill up a glass of water no problem but now no water is coming out of the dispenser. The...

Usually that is from the water line freezing up. Behind your refrigerator drawers there is either a plastic tank or a coil of plastic tube........That is where the water runs so your dispenser puts out chilled water. If your fridge gets too cold that will form ice inside and stop the water from flowing. You can defrost it with a hair dryer or just let the fridge sit open for a few hours. Another thing could be the water valve. When you press the water lever on the dispenser do you hear a noise? Kind of a humming noise. Well, that is your water valve, so if you hear it then it is probably working.

WATER QUIT RUNNING IN DOOR

Okay. My appliance is around four years old. The first time the water quit working was about a year ago (ice cubes / dispenser was fine). I just let it go and didn't worry about it. One day months later, I found it functional again. That lasted about a month or two, then it recently quit again. Tonight, I located the water supply line coupling under the unit on the left side under the freezer door, about five inches from the hinge. I separated the coupling (push lock type) and pressed the water dispenser lever. After a few seconds, the water flowed out just fine. I re-attached the coupling, turned the freezer coldness selector to 0 (off) opened the freezer door and fetched my wife's blow dryer. I ran the dryer along the inside of the freezer door near the black door seal frrom the hinge up to the water/ice dispencer compartment. I also ran it all along the back of the dispenseer compartment to the handle side of the door as I am unsure of where the water line runs. After about ten minutes of this, I attempted to dispense water with no luck. I continued with the blow dryer until the plastic and even the door seal were very warm to the touch. I closed the door and attempted to dispense water once again, and this time it worked. I turned the coldness selector back on. This time I set the freezer to 3 and the fridge to 7. I ran several cups of water through the dispenser since it's been sitting in the line for a while before drinking any. As for the "reservoir," I don't where or if one exists, but heating up the inside of the door from hinge to dispenser worked perfectly. Hope this helps someone!

Cheers!

The ice maker in my whirlpool gold refrigerator Model No, GR2FHTXTBOO, is not working.

Hello jitkagardner,
Welcome

You said, The ice maker in my whirlpool gold refrigerator Model No, GR2FHTXTBOO, is not working.

How old is the fridge?
When have you last changed the water filter.
Should be down below at the front grille!
Try these tasks!

If the ice maker is not producing ice or not enough ice
Refrigerator connected to a water supply and the supply
shutoff valve turned on? Connect refrigerator to water
supply and turn water shutoff valve fully open.
• Kink in the water source line? A kink in the line can reduce
water flow. Straighten the water source line.
• Ice maker turned on? Make sure wire shutoff arm or switch
(depending on model) is in the ON position.
• New installation? Wait 24 hours after ice maker installation
for ice production to begin. Wait 72 hours for full ice
production.
• Freezer door closed completely? Firmly close the freezer
compartment door. If the freezer compartment door will not
close all the way, see "The doors will not close completely."
• Large amount of ice recently removed? Allow 24 hours for
ice maker to produce more ice.
• Ice cube jammed in the ice maker ejector arm?
Remove ice from the ejector arm with a plastic utensil.
• Water filter installed on the refrigerator? Remove filter and
operate ice maker. If ice volume improves, then the filter may
be clogged or incorrectly installed. Replace filter or reinstall it
correctly.
• Reverse osmosis water filtration system connected to
your cold water supply? This can decrease water pressure.

Let me know how it goes!

its possible that your water tank has frozen up, try turning the refrig off and leave the doors open for about 10-15 mins and try it again. if that works just reset temp controls a little lower..
