You can if the router is wireless and you have a wireless card in your computers. If not, then you will have to upgrade the router to a wireless and get wireless cards in the computers or run a cable to the 2nd floor
the motorola modem that att is using uses 192.168.1.x subnet. log onto your router and change it to 192.168.b.x where b is any number between 2 and 254 (just not 1). You should also log onto the modem and change the setting that allows it to share the external ip address with the router. You will need to do this if you plan on accessing your network from the internet.
upgrade your windows xp, drivers are not required to use the router on your computer if you are using the windows xp.

In order to access shared files on a Windows XP computer (or any
computer running Samba) from a Mac, the Mac will need to "connect" to
the Windows XP computer and "mount" the shared files.
Start at the "Go" drop down menu at the top of your screen, then "Connect to server".
If the computer you wish to connect to is listed, just select it from the list. If
the computer is not listed, type into the "Server Address" field
'smb://' followed by the computer name or IP address of the computer to
which you want to connect.

I guess you probably aint set-up a wireless router before, what you need to do is get it connected up so you revieve local area is connected then, load internet explorer you will recieve a message like page not displayed.
where you usually type in www.ebay.com for example type in the number thats on the bottom of the router ie it looks somthing like this 192.168.1.1 for example. a menu will then appear, fill in your broadband username details etc and you should be up and going, if you have problems feel free to email me,,
