Riccar 8995 no suction


I think you mean it's an 8955, Riccar has not had a 8995 model. If there is no suction in the hose it has to have something clogging it. Open the little round opening on the back of the vacuum where the hose attaches to see if you have suction there.

I have an Electrolux Diplomat vacuum and I changed the bag yesterday. I went to turn it back on and the signal light "?" came on and now I can't get it to run. Help!!


Although the "?" light is primarily for indicating the bag is full, it can also come on as a result of other problems. First, turn dial on top of vacuum counter-clockwise so the smallest dot lines up with the arrow. See if it stays on. If not, detach hose and turn vacuum on. Place palm of hand over intake. If it turns off, it's possible that the tubes connecting to the CVA are clogged and simply need cleaned. This is most often caused by using "made to fit" Electrolux bags. Dust is sucked through the bags and into the motor compartment of the machine. All interior parts get covered in dust and need to be cleaned. If this is the cause, the vacuum is best cleaned and repaired at an authorized Aerus Electrolux store. If the vacuum shuts off, or won't turn on before placing hand over the intake, it's probable the control valve assembly is bad and needs replaced.
Another cause is an overheated motor due to clogged screen at back of bag well, full or clogged bag, dirty afterfilter, bad wiring/connections, clogged hose, clogged power head, or bad motor. It depends largely on the type and model of cleaner. Clogged wands are also a possibility, but unlikely.

Check and clean screen at back of bag well.

Replace bag. Make sure it's a genuine Electrolux bag made by Home Solutions.

Check and replace afterfilter if necessary. These should be replaced after every six bags.

Broken and worn wiring connections are often found in the hose ends due to abuse and normal wear and tear. You can check the continuity of the hose using a continuity tester or multi-tester. If a multi-tester, turn dial to one of the Ohm settings. Place one probe into one of the terminals on the end of the hose. This will be referred to as T1. Touch the other probe to each of the terminals/connections on the other end of the hose. These will be T3 and T4. One of them should read zero, the other should read infinity. Repeat this with the other terminal, which will be T2.

Drop a marble in one end of hose and let it roll through. If it doesn't roll through, the hose is clogged and needs to be cleared. Plug hose into the exhaust port of the vacuum, place other end in the in port. Turn vacuum on. This provides a blowing and sucking action which should clear the hose.
Detach hose from power nozzle (PN). Drop a marble into the wand end of PN. If it rolls through, it's clear. If not, there's probably a clog behind the brush where the intake opening is. You may be able to reach this through wand end with needle nose pliers, or either end with a knitting/crochet needle or a bent coat hanger.

If none of these "fixes" provide the answer to the problem, it should be taken to the nearest Aerus Electrolux store for diagnosis. Repairs or checks involving disassembly of the vacuum should always be done by an authorized Aerus Electrolux service technician.

I have a dyson 07. Vacuum works fine, great suction using the hose. How do I switch to using the carpet vacuum. (I lost my instruction book) Thanks


If this unit has a suction hose built in to the handle, the carpet vacuum should start working after you return the handle hose to the proper position.

If you have access to a small sink "snake" used to clear clogs in sinks, you might be able to use it to "snag" the sock and pull it out. Needs to be a metal sewer snake so that you can tug on it if and when it snags the sock.

Dirt devil vacuum has suction on bottom but not on hose


Follow the hose to where it goes into the body of the vaccum, you should be able to release it, you more than likely have something lodged in the hose or at the connection joint, Strech the hose once it is disconnected to make sure nothing is still lodges in it.

Sebo automatic x1.1 loss of suction


Check that the dust channel from the sole plate/brush head isn't clogged. Open the trapdoor (usually orange in colour on the base) and inspect the dust channel - sometimes dog hair can get trapped between the main dust channel and the feeder. Other than that take off the main hose and see if there's a clog down there as well as the main part where the wand locks in at the back. Its reasonably easy to get a clog out from a Sebo X range model.

Decreased suction at hose end


Yes, the "door" on the angle hose might not closing properly when the vacuum is in the upright position (if you look at the vacuum from the back, this hose connects the back to the bottom of the vacuum and it has a "door" at the very bottom end that is supposed to block suction to the lower part of the vacuum while upright) Check for a build up of linty stuff in the corner. The best way to access this is to remove the two screws on the clamp found at the top of the hose, (freeing the hose on top only), straighten hose so you can see inside to the end, and watch inside as you press the upright release lever. (awkward, but worth the effort) You should be able to see the door move -it should be completely open when the vacuum is not locked upright, and should be completely closed when upright. Remove anything that might be preventing it from closing - I used a flathead screwdriver. Hope this helps someone!!!!

Eureka Capture Vacuum


Either the filters are clogged, the hose has a clog in it, or the dirt inlet down by the brush roll is clogged. Pull the hose off and see if you have suction at the end of the hose, that will tell you which way to look for a clog.
