Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

I can not get my remote for my sears 1/2hp door opener (1996) to program. The wall consoles and keypad work, but not the remote. I tried changing the batteries with no luck. Do I need a new remote? I have 2 garage doors and can't get it programmed for either one.

Sounds like you need a new remote. Make sure you purchase the correct remote for your model opener. There are many that will not work.

How do I check a wireless garage door keypad, to see if it is transmitting?

These remotes don't loose the programming code when a battery goes dead, most likely the remote or the board on the opener went bad, do any other remotes work? You can take the remote to an auto parts store and test it there. (They have a tester for key fobs)

If the keypad is hardwired, do this:

To program the keypad, first unplug the garage door opener from the electrical outlet. Next, remove the nameplate from the console that the keypad plugs into and locate the program/operate switch. Flip the switch to program. Next, enter your desired four-digit PIN number into the keypad. Slide the switch back to operate and plug the garage door opener back in. The keypad should be programmed.

The symptoms you give are exactly the way it is when the lock function is used. The wall control and the keypad will work but not the hand remotes. If holding the lock button for 3 seconds doesn't change it you should hold in the smart/learn button for 6 seconds. This will erase all remotes from memory and only the wall control will work. Now program it for the remotes and the keypad.

Did the remote and keypad work before you changed the battery? Changing the battery in the keypad should not affect the remote.
