most gas furneses have a red light on circuit board wich is located on intake. turn heater off then have someone turn it back on while you watch the circuit board. count the # of times the red light flashes before it pauses. it will flash in a cycle. for instance it flashe 3 times then pauses for 5 secounds then flashes 3 times again on and on. look on the back of the panel cover, their will be a diagram, in the diagram their will be dianostic report that will include what that # of flashing red light and what it means. for examle 3 flashing red lights ps stuck open. that means pressure switch stuck open. replace the part and your back up and running.

The top red light flashes and then after a while it turns off and both lights flash red with temp 14 flashing also

Hi Karen,

If my description of what your heater is doing please read through to the end.

The heater is turned on and a room temperature is selected.
You can hear the noise of a small fan start, which shortly after the heater starts.
After a short period of time the heater stops and the red led begins to flash and shuts itself down.

This type of heater has a balanced flue, which means it draws air in one pipe and exhausts it out another.
Have the balanced flue checked for blockages, the problem will most likely be in the flue pipe which draws the outside cool air into the heater and not the flue pipe which blows out the hot air.
it may be full of cob webs or something else which restricts the air flow to the heater.
A service person can perform a quick test to prove the above theory. At the rear of the heater there are two pipes, one is an insulated metal pipe and the other is plastic pipe.
Disconnect the plastic pipe from the flue box and restart the heater.
If the heater runs normally this will confirm that there is a blockage.

Pentair heater will not light

This could be a temperature sensor issue, however you should open the panel and look at the ignition control module, there is a red light that will flash and based on the number of flashes it may tell you more information. Open the panel the. Try to fire the heater and watch the light and see which flashing sequence it gives you, post back with that information and we may be able to figure it out

In trying to light our furnace for the winter, we encountered a flashing red light and control switch open. What do we do?

these type of things depending on heater are usually better for the experts to fix for you i could fix it but not without looking at it first the red light could be flashing for a fault code but that could also be faulty, usually the only thing you could try is reseting the heater by switching of the power feed for a minute, then turn back on the only trouble is it may be wired directly to the mains box without an isolater near heater (thats why its always a good idea to have isolater near heater for quick switch off of power) if reseting it doesn't work i'd would call service agent as it needs repair work

The red light on the water heater keeps flashing

Attached to the water heater is a troubleshooting chart for your sequence light. 1 flash means..., 2 flashes means...., and so forth. Find the chart, count the flashes and see what it means and we'll go from there. Douglas
