Microsoft wireless notebook optical mouse 3000 Doesnt seem to work?

Bought the mouse used. No software, but downloaded it online. Can't get it to work. Notice the receiver does not light up when put in the USB port. Have pressed connect buttons on the mouse and nothing. Could the mouse or receiver be bad,or am I not doing something right?

Please!!!! Homestead

    New out of package.

    Fresh Battery.

    USB Green LED on.

    Mouse Red light on.

But does not work on either VISTA desktop or XP MEDIA laptop.

    What are these CONNECT buttons?

WickedAmalia, I did as your post above suggests. The receiver is plugged into my USB port (2.0) and then I pressed the "connect button on the underside of the mouse" and it did blink red, I let it go then pressed this same (only) button on the mouse and held it while pressing the receiver button at the same time and the receiver button did light up green and while still holding both buttons, at the same time, released after a count of three(?), why 3? , no idea, just tried to give the connection a brief chance to work. So now I'm ready to see if the cursor will move and..... nothing happens.

I bought this "Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000" a year or so ago and it did work back then on my Dell Inspiron XP-pro. Later misplaced these two pieces. I've searched online today looking for an online manual/instruction page w/o success.

Went to Microsoft technical support page for this Optical 3000 mouse and the website says it will work on Vista. If anyone reading this has the original instruction sheet and/or knows where it is available, I would be extremely grateful to you for your help in resolving this matter by printing those instructions here for anyone else needing this help or a link to the instructions site. Thanks so much, in advance!!! PS- Many sites I've Googled claim to have these instructons but when I go there either the instructions are no where to be found OR they want you to pay to see the manual.

Okay, a coworker had this problem and it was a fairly easy fix, first, plug the USB reciever into a direct USB port, then pess the connect button on the underside of the mouse, when the red light starts blinking let go and then press it and hold, and at the SAME TIME press and hold the connect button on the receiver until both the receiver light and the mouse light turn on steadily, and voila!

Try plugging the receiver into a different usb port on your computer. A front port may not be functional, and the receiver may only work with usb 2.0 ports, of which your computer will have both 1.1 and 2.0 ports on the back.

Try checking if the batteries are working.
Maybe the guy gave you the wrong reciever.
Try first trouble shot the mouse, put in new batteries (because if the batteries are low it wont connect). If the mouse lights up, then its fine.

Now try the reciever on another computer. If the reciever doesnt work, then most likely that the reciever is faulty

Hope this helps

Cheers

There could be several other factors influencing the behaviour of your optical mouse. Have you tried cleaning the lens underneath and also used a contrasting mouse mat on your table?
The range of this mouse is very limited (3ft) and you might have some interference from other devices around (like cordless phone, wireless devices and so on)

Check the following 2 sites for more troubleshooting ideas. Also the microsoft site referenced below provides some software you can download to diagnose better.
