Polaroid LCD TV image problem

Somehow this wound up listed here under projection tv troubleshooting. Actually, it is a widescreen LCD.

Occasionally some portion of the screen on my Polaroid TDA-03211C TV/DVDcombo will momentarily display a low-resolution (large pixels)freezeframe. This may happen 3 or 4 times in the space of 2 minutes, or maynot happen at all for a couple of hours.

Thanks for the response. I have read about capacitors causing other problems in Polaroid TVs. I'll see if I can find any bulging ones.

Polaroids are known for their bad quality. The capacitors are known to go pretty quick which could be the problem you are having. I would first check them out since they are a cheaper fix. See http://www.fixya.com/support/r741402-polaroid_flm_373b_lcd_TV_black_screen

Otherwise your processor would most likely be causing this and needing replacement. good luck with this as Polaroid has horrible customer service but I bet you can find another one online if you find that it is the real problem. There are many online tv parts stores so if you need help finding one, let me know

Feel free to let me know of anything else you may need

my best to you

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

Black screen

You may have blown power supply for the backlight inverter or blown backlight inverter board, either one are cheap!,
This is cheaply made TV to begin with. Repiar shop will charge you $200 and up plus parts.

Polaroid tv problem

The most likely the TV has a power supply related problem.
I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

The most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. The most common thing to go out is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board.

Polaroid TV remote control codes for Tivo

As I understand it, Polaroid TV's sometimes work with the Mitsubishi codes. You may give this a try. You may also e-mail Polaroid direct at www.polaroidelectronics.com contact page to find out what codes should be used (may match a different manufacturer)

Black box comes up on tv screen

The black box is a text box for closed captioning. Some stations send the signal which turns on the box while not actually broadcasting any text. Go into your setup menu and turn off closed captioning, or at least change it to a different mode. The easiest option is to restore factory presets.
