Hello julian_ad681

I will tell you how wire your case front panel, but before that lets test the motherboard to make sure the problem is not the board itself.

Remove all the wire connections to the front panel.

Turn the power on and with a small screw driver or anything that is metal short (touch) the two pins that are the PWR SW. (look at the list of pins I have put at the end)

If the computer turns on then it means the board is ok.

The following information is also availabe in the motherboard manual available from the gogabyte web site download section

On the motherboard next to the battery is the front panel header pins. it looks like

0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 i also write them as numbers as well to make it easy for you)
0 0 0 0 0

1 2 3 4 0 0 0 0
5 6 7 8

1 and 2 are message LED. you don't need any connection to this.
3 and 4 are the power switch connections no polarity, just connect the wires
5 and 6 are the hard disk LED. 5 is the positive side (usually red)
7 and 8 are the reset switch. no polarity, just connect the wires.
Next to the message LED there is a three pin connection. This is for the power LED.

hope this has helped you.

Please I need a picture or pictures of how you connect the cables from the cabinet in this motherboard GA-G31M-ES2L. the office that I'm trying to enjoy the positive it has entered a msg on the board and...

> HDD LED == hard-disk drive Light Emitting Diode (a "lamp" that lights-up when you are reading/writing files to/from your disk-drive)

> RST SW == the (optional) "reset" switch/button on the face-plate

> SPK == the internal PC loudspeaker

> PW SW == the power on/off switch/button on the face-plate

First, connect the "PWR SW", so that the ON/OFF button works.
It's much less important that the other wires be connected.
For example, if you never press the RESET button on the face-plate, you don't need to connect that button to the motherboard.

Need to re-attach power button cable, hard drive

The manual for your computer is available from emachines, p.168 shows the info you need (replacing the front I/O panel)
http://downloads.emachines.com/userguides/8511279_eM_NG3_chassis_HW_ref_en.pdf

The good news is that you can't harm the computer by connecting the wires wrong and the bad news is they just won't work the way they are supposed too if not connected properly. The LED's must have the correct polarity to work.
In general, if you look real close (as in magnifying glass and flash light) you will see the ID for each set of pins is printed on the motherboard (pwr, rst,HDD,pwr sw,speaker) Just match what it says on the motherboard to what it says on the wires. Don't worry if you get the polarity wrong. If a light doesn't work just swap the two wires. The colored wires should be positve (+), though. The reset (rst) and power switch (pwr sw) wires don't require polarity.
These instructions are for most computers in general, YMMV.

There are may motherboards, but most have writing on them as to what is suppose to plug where. For example, for the power switch, the lettering might be "Pwr" or "Power" or "Pwr sw". The pins are usually together and should fit the plug on the end of the wire.

Gigabyte GA-8INXP Motherboard Problem- front connector pins

If the wires from the reset switch is white/blue the blue wire is positive, Hdd red/white red is positive power Green/white Green is positive etc. The wires on the speaker connector will be red/black/black/white - red is positive. The colored wire is always positive. On all GA mb's the positive connection is always towards the back of the MB and are marked with a + on the base of the pin as you can see on the photo. Hope this help.
