Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I am attempting to start up television with a DVC box and rabbit ears TV. I called Magnavox and they checked out their DVC box. However, they suggest tuning to channel 3. The lowest I can get is channel 4 (with original remote and manual buttons on TV). Please advise how to get channel 3 or any other appropriate solution. Thanks, Tim Hughes tim30017@yahoo.com

Hello Tim,

I'm presume by DVC you mean a digital converter box? If you are unable to select channel 3 on the TV it's most likely because the DVC box is set to output on RF channel 4. There should be a small switch on the back of the box for switching the RF output channel to 3 or 4.

It doesn't really matter which one you select. When you run the channel scan on the TV, it should automatically recognise whether the input is on RF channels channel 3 or 4. However, on some TVs, you may need to select the RF channel from within the on-screen menu.

This only applies if you are using a coaxial cable (threaded connector) to connect the DVC to the TV. If you are using another type of cable - e.g. composite with yellow, white and red jacks - you do not need to use either of the RF channels and you do not need to run the channel scan. In this case, all you need to do is select the correct input on the TV. This is usually done using a key on the TV remote labelled INPUT, SOURCE, TV/AV or TV/VIDEO.

It's difficult to give exact instructions as you did not specify the model number of the Magnavox DVC or your TV. If you need further assistance, please reply to me with these details and let me know how the DVC is connected to the TV. If you don't know the model number of your TV, this can usually be found on a label on the back of the TV. If you don't know which type of cable you are using, please describe it as best you can, i.e. the number of jacks on each end and whether they are color-coded.

Please reply to me by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question.

Regards,
BElectric

NO channels now, we had some before!!!!!

Here is how you should have it connected.
1- Antenna (rabbit ears or whatever)
2- Converter box
3- Television

When you turn on the TV and the converter box, go to channel 3 on the TV. You should see the converter box signal there. If you do not see it try channel 4. Bring up the convert box menu and go through the AUTO SEARCH, not manual search. Now your box will search all the frequencies and add any stations that are in your area. Make sure you change channels with the converter box, not the tv. An antenna on the roof will still provide somewhat better range, but even rabbit ears will likely pick up something. If you still get no channels you could be too far away, digital signals have a shorter range than analog signals. You can check your local TV stations website or call to see if they are broadcasting digital yet.

Need to hook up dvd/vcr combo with converter box

Connect your rabbit ears to the Insignia. Connect the Insignia to the antenna input on the "cvd/vcr combo". Now turn on the television to show the "cvd/vcr combo".

The Insignia simply goes between your antenna and your television. In your case you also have a vcr so if you want the VCR to be able to play and record digital stations you will need the Insignia between the vcr and the antenna.

Analog signals have nothing to do with your problem. Make sure that the TV is set channel is set to 3 or 4 (cf read of Converter box for channel switch). The TV received signal from Converter box on Channel 3 (or AV Cables if you have them)

You must change the input on the system to be AIR/Antenna , the way it was before was set to cable/dish/DTV.
The tv sees the input different.
