Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router

1 Answer

I'm trying to sign into my Netgear Router to reset my password, because I do not remember it and to set-up a secure connection. However whenever I type in http://routerlogin.net, All I get is information on how to set-up security or how to reset my password. But to information given does not solve my problem. Also when I tried visiting 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.0, I have been unable to access my router. I have already tried resetting the router several times. My Router is WGR614v9. Any advice, would be appreciated.

How to View or Change Your Wireless Network Password Symptoms:

  • You have lost or forgotten the password to your wireless network
  • You have lost or forgotten the password for the router, access point or other network device
  • You left the default password or used a weak password and someone has hijacked your network

Depending on the router, you can either view or reset the wireless network password (also referred to as the passphrase or security key) if you can log into the router. Some routers mask the wireless network password, so while you cannot recover it, you can enter and save a new password.

If you cannot log into your router because you have forgotten the router password or your network has been hijacked, please refer to "Lost or forgotten password for router or other device" below.

To view or reset a wireless network password:

  1. Log in to your NETGEAR router by browsing to http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com. Enter the username (admin) and password. By default, the password is password or 1234 unless it has already been changed.
  2. From the left-hand navigation menu of the Router Manager, select Set Up > Wireless Settings.
  3. From the center screen, select your encryption type from under the Security Options heading.
    • If the wireless network passphrase is visible, review it and use it to log devices onto your network.
    • If it is not visible, you can change your wireless passphrase; however, changing the passphrase will cause you to lose your wireless connection. Connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable before entering a new passphrase into the text box and clicking Apply.
If you cannot log into your router:

Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a lost or forgotten password from a router or access point; you will need to reset the device to factory defaults. However, once the device is reset to factory defaults, you can use the default username ("admin") and password (either "password" or "1234" depending on your router) to reconfigure your router settings.

NOTE: Restoring factory defaults on a device will erase any customizations you have made. You will lose any configurations saved to the device!

If you have changed the default password and have forgotten the password, you may need to reset the NETGEAR device to factory default settings.

When a NETGEAR device resets, it goes back to the state when it was new - all information that was entered by hand is lost! Examples include critical things you need to get online, such as ISP username, ISP password, IP addresses, wireless security keys, and ports and services that were opened. It all needs to be re-entered.
So, have your ISP information before resetting the router.
Naturally, if you moved to a new city, or if you bought a used router, the old information in the router may not be of use to you. Contact your ISP if you can't connect any computer directly to the Internet. Then, if there is a connection problem when the router is added, see No Internet Access Through the Router
Reset for most routers with a reset button on the rear panel
Write down configuration information such as IP addresses, security keys, opened ports and services, etc., that you modified. (The default username is admin and the password is either password or 1234. Try these before resetting the router.)

  1. Press the reset button on the back until the test light blinks. This takes about 10 seconds. (To avoid accidental resets, the small button is recessed. Use a pen or paperclip to access it.)
  2. Release the button.
  3. Wait for the router to reboot.
  4. Log in with the default password. If the router configuration was not cleared, try these additional steps AFTER the router has finished rebooting.
  5. Unplug the router's power.
  6. Press and hold the reset button. While the button is held down, reconnect router's power.
  7. Continue to hold the reset button for 20 seconds after reconnecting the power.
  8. Wait for the router to reboot.
  9. Log in with the default password.
For DGN2000 / DG834Gv5 Routers
To restore the factory default configuration settings when you do not know the login password or IP address, press both the Wireless button and WPS button on the side of the modem router for 5 seconds.
For FR314, FR318, and FV318
These routers require reloading the firmware in order to recover from a lost password. Download the most recent firmware from NETGEAR's Web site before proceeding. Follow the instructions in the manual.
For routers with a 9-pin manager port on the rear panel: RT314, RT311, RM356, RT328, RT338, RH340, and RH348
See Updating Router Firmware That Uses a Manager Port.

I have got a 2nd laptop and cant remenber my password to connect it to my wireless connection

If yuor first laptop is able to connect then try installing SIW on it and click the PASSWORDS link to see if it will retrieve the wireless password off the first laptop.
If not, and you cannot get into the router either, you will need to reset the netgear to factory by depressing the reset button in the back for 10 seconds, which resets the login to 'admin' and the password to 'password' to allow access to the router, and setting the wireless security to NONE - allowing you to change it to something you can remember.

If you are able to get into the router, but simply cannot remember the wireless password, you can reset it to something else without resetting the router through the wireless security menu in the router. You will need to then set both laptops to use the new password.

In order to get your router back to the original settings, you must push in the reset button (usually on the back of the router) for somewhere between 10 and 30 seconds depending on the router. You may need a pin or something small to push in the button, because it can be recessed. Once you have reset the router, the username and password will be changed to the defaults, u-admin p-and password or u-admin p-1234, respectively. One thing you must remember is that resetting the router will change all of the router settings back to the factory settings. This means you will lose all of the changes you made since you got the router. Make sure to write down any things you've changed, so you can change them back after the reset. Also, I recommend updating to the latest firmware after the reset.

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya Support
I am Michelle, and i will be assisting you regarding the issue
Try using a pen or paper clip to press the reset button on the back of the device. Keep the button pressed until the lights in the front of the Netgear router start flashing. The router will reboot after resetting the configurations.
Open a internet explorer browser window and enter 192.168.1.1
the Netgear router configuration console will open and will prompt you to enter username and password
Enter the default username and password. Now that settings have been reset, you can use the Netgear global default username and password listed below:
username: admin
password: 1234 or password
Unplug the router's power cable if these passwords do not work. If you are still unable to login, the router may not have been reset. While the router is unplugged, hold the reset button for 20 seconds before plugging in the power cord. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to gain access to the router, using the new admin username and password

Ihave bought a new Dell laptop and want to connect it wirelessly to my netgear router but have lost the security code to do it.

While directly connected to your router by an Ethernet cable type 192.168.0.1 into your browser window(Internet Explorer/Firefox). You will then be directed to a sign in page for the router. If this information has not been changed it should be the following: username: admin and password: password(both will be in lowercase letters). If you are unable to get signed in with this information and do not know the username and password then you will need to press the reset button on the back of the router for 5-10 seconds. Then this username and password will work. After getting signed into the router you will then click wireless setting on the left side. This page will should you the all of your network information including the name, security information and the password which will be listed as either passphrase or key. The passphrase or key will be the password you will enter once you select your network name to connect to. This following link has the full manual for your Netgear router in case you do not have it. I have the modem and i get great connection but i can't connect beacause i don't remember the password

There are 2 passwords, but actually one is a key. If you've lost the router password, you will probably have to reset the router. If you've lost the key, you can get it from the web menu if the security was WEP. If it's WPA, you might have to generate new keys.

Try this first. Open up IE and go to 192.168.1.1 If the box opens asking for username and password, try admin and password. If it opens up a Netgear screen, look down the left tab to Wireless Settings.

If your security is WEP, the key is displayed on that screen.

If this doesn't work, post back and I'll try to help you either login or reset the router.

Have lost/can't remember the security code to wirelessly connect to my netgear DG 834G

Paul.

Can you connect to the router via ethernet?

If so assuming you havent changed the routers address connecting to 192.168.0.1 from your web browser should get you into your routers admin page.

Once you have entered the user name and password click the Wireless link from teh main menu where you will be able to see the relevent key and or change it if required.

If you need the manuals you can download from here.
